The Madinah Arabic Books for Dummies Thread

Going through the text I have some questions. InshaAllah someone here can help.

First of all on page 51 of book 1

Where it says 'In four houses' the Arabic is fiya. Why is it not just fi? I was thinking maybe that it was because of the hamzatul qat after it, but on page 49 where it says 'they are in the room' again it says fiya. It used to say just fi before. Under what conditions does 'fi' become 'fiya' then?

I have other questions, but lets see if I can get this one answered first. I don't want to overwhelm you
