I for one cannot see the Shi'a as heretics, and in fact the few I know are impressive and spiritual accomplished men. Its sad that Sunni authorities curse Shi'a, and Shi'i authorities curse Sunnis; the whole affair is embarrassing. You'll never see the Catholics and the Greek Orthodox behave like this, though they differ on some significant issues. Tribal politics play too heavy a role in Islam today, but then I am tempted to ask myself if tribal politics has ever been absent from Islam...

The difference between Catholics and Greek Orthodox are minuscule compared to the differences between Sunnis and Shias.

shi'as' creed has nothing to do with islam, and the vast majority of shi'a are ithna ash'ariyya whose creed is well known and unislamic. Any shi'a having their senior's ulama's creed will be kaafir.
