Question Re: For increasing Devotion & Concentration in Salah!

A couple of questions I wanted to ask:
    1. Since (to the best of my knowledge) the ruling is to not recite behind the Imam in silent prayers. What should one be thinking about for focus in prayers?
    2. Unfortunately if one doesn't understand Arabic, what should one be thinking about in prayer when the Imam is reciting portions of the Quran that one doesn't know the translation of.

You could recite sura fatiha silently (in your mind) and slowly that would take up some of the waiting time.

I just listen to and follow the imams recitation.

    As Salaamu Alaikum

Your should think that you are praying infront of Allah and Allah is watching you.

    Was Salaamu Alaikum.

One of the scholars in Buffalo told me, "Pray an extra 2 rakats of nafil, for every rakah you lose concentration."

Do people think that they will be left (at ease) only on their saying, “We believe” and will not be put to any test?

Prior to the salaah protect your gazes. In a hadith the beloved prophet Of Allah has stated that one who protects the eyes will receive sweetness in Amaal.

The consistence flow in the elevation of Marifa (The recognition of Allah) is the continuum practice of dhikr of Allah. Consequently the concentration of Salaah is not generally something that 'appears' during the salaah, hence one of the wisdoms of praying additional prayers to boost concentration prior to the obligatory Salaah.

If one is making effort on Emaan throughout the day the concentration of Salaah becomes easy.

Try giving Dawaah just on the greatness of Allah for approx' 10 mins prior to stand for pray you will experience the impact.
