    Default Topee and Qamees

    Assalaamu`alaikum,

One of my friends who is learned told me that topee is not sunnah according to the hanafi madhab, is this correct? I also heard Colonel Ameer-udeen (from UK) say that its is makrooh to pray without a topee (I know he is not an `aalim)?

Also, is the sunnah qamees supposed to have a slit in it? Is there ikhtilaaf on this issue?

    Wa alaikom salam.
From what I know, the sunnah IS to use a tope (kufi, takia, skullcap), and it is makrooh in the hanafi maddhab to pray with a bare head, except if one do this for humility.
About the qames, I am not sure if the pakistani style qames is the sunnah, I am under impression that the sunnah is the long one, as the arabs use.
If I am mistaken please some brother correct me.

I know a few scholars did only concider the imamah to be sunnah, excluding all other headgear. But there are many ulama who hold a different opinion.

In Manaqib Abu Hanifa, Imam Dhahabi wrote,

Abd al-Wahhab says, "I saw Abu Hanifa in Kufa and he wore a tall black cap"

In Kitab Ibn Abil Awwam, Imam Kawthari said,

"It is mentioned in al-Alusi's Kashf al-Turrah [pg.284]. Imam Abu Hanifa's shaykh Hammad ibn Abu Sulayman would also wear it"

    wassalam
    Abdul-Hadi
"A feeling of discouragement when you slip up is a sure sign that you put your faith in deeds"

    al-Hikam, Ibn 'Ata'Illah al-Iskandari

Please also refer to a book entitled , The crown of a believer by Maulana Husain Kadodia who is also the Ameer/Mufti of our forum. He has quoted a few hundred narrations from the Sahabah, Tabiin, and Rasulullah to prove that one should wear a Topi.

As always with Fiqh, people of opposing views will have their proofs,so could those who say that the headgear is not a sunnah, can they please show your proof. Im not asking in an argumentative way, but purely for my own knowledge.

The arab qamees/thawb is not sunnah. That is what I heard from an Aalim.

I doubt such daleel present. once i heard in a bayan that, prophet mohammad(sw) even never walk with barehead through the bazar, then how can he stand before allah in barehead!!!

I am also eagerly waiting for the evidence .
