I remember reading it (urdu version) hundreds of time in my childhood : ) Its such a lovely book. You can never put it down once you've picked it up!
i have a copy from qadimi kutub khana (all i'rab-ed and with pictures, too, lol) so i'm pretty sure you'll be able to find it in pakistan.

i read it this summer. liked it a lot. but yeah, to benefit from the arabic you've got to read it multiple times.

    Salaam,

Those who enjoyed the arabic of Kalila wa dimna - would most likely also enjoy - al-lis wal kilab - by nageeb mahfooz - Kalila as well as lis wal kilab was part of the A Level arabic course in the UK when i was studying the course in my third year - Its not deeni and is fictional - but the language is excellent.

For anyone considering purchasing this book, I would suggest to get versions which are bila i'rab (without the fatha, kasra, and dhamma). The one I linked to above is bila i'rab.

Is there a difference otherwise? i.e. other than one version having i'raabs and the other not having i'raabs.

I have yet to see the other versions out there. I have the version which I got from Amazon (its published by Spoken Language Services). I will hopefully get the ones sold in Pakistan in the next few days. The content is most likely similar.

Studied this book as the text for my Arabic A level last year.

Had to do with photocopied sheets though.
