    Default Baby Sign Language

well any of you tried signing with your baby, have you taught sign language to your child
I think if th ebaby can learn the skills then it's easier for them to describe their needs...

I have been trying, well started to ...so I hope Allah SWT makes this easy for me and my baby can learn it...

let me know what you all think

    wa `alaykum assalam wa rahmatullah
I had not tried sign language with babies; I was not confident in my on abilit to use it consistently and help the baby learn it as a form of communication. Inshallah when I have children of my own, I will know more about baby sign language so that I can use it with them. I do know that talking normally to babies from a very, very young does help them to develop linguistically before other children who are not talked to or who are generally babbled at.

Sister, I have done this with my son. He's more of a "physical" type of person so teaching him signs helped him to communicate before he could pronounce the words clearly.

I started with a word/sign that I knew he would actually use since he LOVES food (lol). I started with "more" which is signed by bringing your fingers and thumbs together on each hand and then touching the finger tips of the right and left hands together. Not sure if I explained that well. But I always use the word WITH the sign.

After that we did "eat" which is fingers of your hands touched to your lips like you're bringing a bite of food to it.

I found that the best way to work with your child is to see what interests them the most(in my son's case - food) and start there. After that you can build up your signing vocabulary along with your child as you teach them each sign, one at a time.

    I hope that helps.

May Allah SWT bless you in your efforts with your child. Ameen.

    JazakAllah sis

I will follow your advice, insha'Allah. I know he is good with following words and motions, Masha'Allah. If i tell him "taali bajao" (clap), he will put both his hands together and clap lol.. so that's why i thought I should teach him some signing before he starts to talk officially.

    thanks again!
