The expanded mas'a

As salam alaykum,

I have searched for the opinions of the major scholars of the different madhahib on the validity of performing sa'i in the expanded Safa and Marwa with little luck.

This is a little suprising as there is a real brouhaha in Saudi between the Ulama and the Saudi authorities. The majority of the scholars have said that any lateral expansion beyond that of the previous one, which took it to the limit, is invalid.

This previous expansion was carried out with the consultation of the Ulama of the time including the then Mufti Sh. Muhammad ibn Ibrahim and a number of non Hanbali Makkan scholars like Sh. Alawi al-Maliki in which they precisely defined the extent of Safa and Marwa.

Does anybody know what the scholars in other countries have said?

Good question...Please post some Fatawa of Saudi Ulama.

I don't know of any Kibaar Hanafi Ulama in India/Pakistan/Europe who are happy with performing Sa'ee on extended Safa & Marwaa.

Most Ulama tell people to avoid this area and perform Sa'ee on the old area instead.

The Deobandi Ulama resident in Makkah are of the view that the saee in the extension is totally fine and legitimate. This is also the view of many senior Deobandi Ulama from Indo-Pak.

Salaam can u mention the names of the Ulama who allow it, both in Makka and others.

Also do you know what the deobandi ulama in makka say regarding new mina/old muzdalifa, do they still allow one to do the wuquf of muzdalifa in new mina, while also residing there during the days of mina.

The Ulama at Sawlatiyyah, including primarily Hadhrat Maulana Abdul Hafiz Makki Saheb (db).

I'm unsure what the answer to your second query is. However, I can tell you that the above Ulama consider the Mina expansion which falls into Muzdalifa to be not part of Mina but part of Muzdalifa. People who are set up in those tents are advised to come within the border of Mina for some time to indulge in worship and reap the reward of spending the night in Mina. This has also been mentioned by Mufti Taqi Saheb (db). I think that may answer your query.

I was told the exact opposite by Ulama that the expansion of Sa'ee area is best to be avoided.
