you should try to pray on the bus, but then repeat that salah when you get home.

Why should you pray and then make it up later. Whats the need to pray in the bus if you are going to repeat it again? Are there any hanafi texts on this issue?

Assalamu alaikum, I asked Mufti Saeed Motara saheb (main mufti from Azadville) this question. He said only in a bus if one is stuck one can pray sitting down and one does not have to repeat it later. This is because there is no possibility of standing. As opposed to a plane where one can stand at the back or a car which can be stopped. This ruling is also quooted at the back of of Reliance with reference to Tahtawi, after which Sh. Nuh mentions that it is not permissible in Shafi fiqh
As to why even pray if one has to repeat, it is probably out of respect for the time. For example the ruling where one is to do the motions of prayer out of respect when wudu and tayammum is not possible.
