Default What is the traditional Sunni position on doing Tawassul at graves?

What is the traditional Sunni position on doing Tawassul at gravesites? This brother earlier this morning was trying to explain to me that Ibn Taimiyyah's viewpoints on Tawassul have never been refuted by any scholar in the history of the Ummah. So I would like to know what the opinion of the Ulama of the Ahlul Sunnah Wa'l Jama3ah is in regards to this issue. Also if you can mention some books written by the traditional ulama/classical ulama regarding the permission of doing tawassul at the grave of an Awliya, I would greatly appreciate it.

The following books are well known:

    Yusuf Nabhânî, Shawâhid al-haq.
Abû Hamid bin Marzûq, At-Tawassulu bin-Nabi wa bis-Sâlihîn

    and, of course,

    Imam Subki, Shifa as-siqâm
