Thread: Bringing Hijamah (cupping) and Medical Acupuncture to the UK

Default Bringing Hijamah (cupping) and Medical Acupuncture to the UK

    Assalaamu 'alaykum,

Just a quick note for anyone interested in having Hijamah done in the UK.

We have undergone various practical sessions and are currently undertaking a Hijamah course recognised by the Complimentary Medical Association.

We are members of the British Medical Acupuncture Society and have carried out extensive case studies on patients in a General Practice setting, managing conditions ranging from simple backaches, headaches and sciatica to sinusitis, dysmenorrhoea and postherpetic neuralgia.

As qualified practicing doctors we have been providing free health check consultations as well as private Hijamah and acupuncture services for many patients in the UK at very reasonable and affordable rates.

Please do contact us for advice or to arrange a session, whether it is for a certain ailment and condition or for reviving the sunnah at the prophylactic (preventative measure) position on the upper back.

Below are a few ahadith relating to the many virtues of Hijamah. With the help of some ulama, we are currently in the process of translating approximately 70 ahadith given to me by Dr Ahmad Hafny, pertaining to this sacred ancient art and will insha'allah share them in due course.

“I did not pass by any group on the night of Al Isra (night ascension), except that they said to me, ‘Oh Muhammad, tell your Ummah to do Hijamah.” (1)

The prophet (PBUH) praised a person who performs cupping, saying “it removes blood, lightens the back and sharpens the eyesight.” (2)

“The arch angel Jibrail (AS) repeatedly emphasized upon me to resort to cupping to the extent that I feared that cupping will be made compulsary." (3)

As a final note, we would like to emphasise the importance of safe, clean cupping. It is vital that hygienic, safe Hijamah is performed taking into account each individuals' past medical as well as drug history. Insha'allah we hope this beautiful sunnah can be revived with this consideration.

“The Apostle of Allah (PBUH) prohibited unclean medicine.” (4)

Thumbs up Re: Bringing Hijamah (cupping) and Medical Acupuncture to the West Midlands

    Asslamo Allaikum,

Masha'Allah this is great to aim to revive the Sunnah.

I went in with the intention of following Sunnah and it cured my Medical Problem (lower back pain to a large extent) and it has been over 10 years.

I have MRI scans of 10 years ago and one taken 4 months ago showing slight bulge and a herniated disk and yet I have lived a very pain free live for 10 years.

I had no hope and no expectation of any cure I just went in for the Sunnah...

What happened in my cupping session blew my mind away.

    Subhanullah!

Absolutely. There are many ahadith addressing this issue. Below are just a few to mention:

Ibn Umar (RA) reported that Nabi (SAW) said: "Cupping (hijamah) on an empty stomach* is best. In it is a cure and a blessing. It improves the intellect and the memory. So cup yourselves with the blessing of Allaah on Thursday. Keep away from cupping on Wednesday, as well as Friday, Saturday and Sunday to be safe. Perform cupping on Monday and Tuesday for it is the day that Allah (SWT) saved Ayoub (AS) from the trial. He was inflicted with the trial on Wednesday. You will not find leprosy except (by being cupped) on Wednesday or Wednesday night.” (1)

    * 'alaa ar-reeq refers to keeping an empty stomach until after being treated with cupping. Upon completion of the Hijamah, one may eat and drink.

Hadhrat Abu Kabsha (RA) narrates that Nabi (SAW) used to undergo cupping on the head and between his shoulders and he used to say: "Whosoever removes this blood, it will not harm him in the case that he does not take any other medical treatment." (2)

Rasulullah (SAW) praised the person who performs cupping, saying: “it removes blood, lightens the back and sharpens the eyesight.” (3)

Many brothers and sisters around the world for this reason have hijamah performed regularly as a prophylactic (preventitive) step against future ailments.

We would highly recommend this great practice not just for the physical and medical benefits, but with the superior niyah (intention) to revive a dying sunnah. As mentioned in a hadith to the nearest effect: "Whosoever has revived one of my sunnah, has in fact loved me. And the one who has loved me, will be with me in Paradise"

    Jazaakallah khayr for your interest.

We do often travel to Lancashire / Yorkshire. If you can arrange a few other brothers as well for hijamah +/ medical acupuncture at a suitable location, we would be more than happy to arrange a meeting.

We have all the supplies, apparatus and disposal equipment. So you would not need to worry about anything. All procedures are performed under strict hygeinic conditions. All we would need if we were to travel to Blackburn, is a quiet room with a bed or couch.

I can email you a simple questionaire sheet for pre-procedure clerking purposes, which you can also pass onto other interested brothers.

I am not sure of the literal implications of "lightening the back" - whether it is a reference to a physical benefit or a metaphorical one. Our respected ulama may be better positioned to clarify that. But as practitioners, we can say that most if not all of our patients have told me that they feel a lot lighter and relaxed having had hijamah. We tend to follow them up a week after the procedure and they continue to confirm this virtue. This is especially so in the case of brothers who have been suffering from back pains, often poorly controlled by long term analgesics (pain killers).

We are able to travel to West Yorkshire, as we have mentioned in our previous reply. Each patient case is different and often warrants a different treatment strategy, therefore incurring a different charge. In the past, we have left patients to agree with a reasonable figure, as the prime objective is sunnah revival. As can be appreciated, the more brothers / friends you can recruit for hijamah the lesser the expense, as we would be travelling out to you.
