Default Playing with *DICE* - Ruling and Explanation

I would like to know what is the ruling on playing games with dice ( eg: monopoly )

I have done my research for this, and found saheeh ahadeeth talking about forbidding dice, however there was some differences of opinion between scholars, whom say that it is referring to playing with dice for money ( gambling ) ... and others say that it is anything with dice, whether it is for money or just for fun.

Can someone please shed some more light into this topic.
    Thank you

    Thanks for that link!

Ok, so no Monopoly for us...
I never knew it was actually not permissble until a few days ago!

Monopoly should be fine. Just use a spinner instead of dice.
Sahabah رضي الله عنهم would cling fast to the Sunnah, on account of it being Sunnah, while we discard the Sunnah, on account of it being (just) Sunnah!

I don't want to be thick minded here, but I don't understand how making a spinner is permissible... or making one of those paper roller thingies....

Can you please explain this to me?

From what I have read and studied about the issue, is that the reason the dice is not permitted is because of it's randomness... so what makes it permissible to create something 'else' to generate randomness???

    Asslamo Allaikum,

DICE is specifically mentioned in Ahadeeth while randomisation of numbers is just a mathematical phenomenon.

If Randomisation itself was Haram then various sciences would have been impermissable.

I hope that clears things up.

Is it not the case when dice is used with gambling.

In the case of monopoly, using the dice to see how many paces one can move on the board can hardly be classed as any sort of gambling.

    Wa Alaikum Al Salam,

Thanks for clearing that up Muadh_Khan
I still feel uncomfortable with playing anything that awaits a random 'chance' of numbers... but that's just me I guess.

If you read the previous post by brother Muadh_Khan, you will see that it is not permissble whether gambling or not gambling.
