Salam Alaykum,
I want to know what should a Muslim do if he knows that certain heretics use some Verses of the Qur'an to propagate their beliefs, and then goes to some of their stores or offices and sees these Verses there and starts to get bad feelings due to that.
For example, many Twelver Shias have the following Verse framed on their walls:
Of course, the Verse is one of the true Verses of the Qur'an. However, when I see this Verse I remember that:
Shias say that this Ayah was revealed after the Prophet (SAW) supposedly appointed Ali (RAA) as the leader of the Muslims at Ghadeer Khumm. As the Shia story goes, the Sahabah did not accept this ruling, and they tried to kill the Prophet (SAW) by throwing a boulder from a high place while he was going back to Madinah.
So Allah, according to the Twelver Shia narrative, sent this Verse to expose the likes of Umar, Abu Bakr, etc., who were bent on killing the Prophet (SAW) in order to do away with his orders and to finish of Islam once and for all. So this and another Ayah:
Were revealed in order to expose these Sahabah and show that they were hypocrites. This is the Shia narrative.
So I want to know what should be our emotive response when reading or seeing such a Verse or other Verses like this. On the one hand, it is a Qur'anic Verse and it deserves full respect and adherence, yet on the other side those Muslims who know what the Twelver Shias say about this Verse cannot help but get upset and angry.
