Darul Ulum is an online Islamic institute, a continuation of the chain of sacred madrassas that have transferred the legacy of knowledge from one generation to another. It is headquartered in Deoband, the city which has hosted thousands of seekers of knowledge from different parts of the world for the past 150 years. This online institute was founded to preserve and deliver knowledge to men and women of all ages from all over the world. It follows a comprehensive, five-year Alim degree program covering the following subjects:

• Arabic Grammar (Syntax and Morphology)
• Arabic Literature (Speech, Composition, and Rhetoric)
• Islamic Theology ('Aqidah)
• Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence (Usul al-Fiqh)
• Fiqh (Jurisprudence)
• ‘Ulum al-Hadith (Sciences of Hadith Interpretation)
• Hadith (Prophetic Traditions)
• Usul al-Tafsir (Principles of Exegesis)
• Tafsir al-Quran (Exegesis)
• Sirah (Prophetic Biography)

A group of designated Islamic scholars has designed the curriculum to suit the schedules of even the busiest students. Imagine studying Alim course the traditional way right from your home under highly educated and designated scholars of Islam directly from the city of Deoband. Imagine joining them through live video conferencing and being among those who followed the command of the Prophet (PBUH): one who is present must convey (the knowledge) to one who is absent. Using an English, then Arabic medium, our five-year Islamic studies course is designed and developed to cater specifically to English-speaking students. Its target audience men and women who intended to study the Islamic sciences, but were prevented by their jobs or family responsibilities. This course is also beneficial for students in universities and colleges who desire to serve Islam, but whose ongoing education does not allow then to enroll in a full-time Islamic institute. It also targets those who cannot afford to travel abroad to study. Here is a chance for all of you to study Islam the traditional way—and later serve your community as an alim—right from home using the tools of modernity.


DIRECTOR
Maulana Mufti Yasir Nadeem is the Director of Darul Ulum online and Deputy Editor of monthly Urdu Magazine, Tarjuman-e-Deoband. He graduated from DarulUloom Deoband in the year 2001, persued 1 year Diploma in Arabic language and literature in 2002, and 1 year Ifta course in 2003 from the same institute. Later he moved to USA for earning a postgraduate degree in Arabic literature in 2005. Recently he is a Ph.D. candidate at the International Islamic University, Malaysia. His area of specialization is the Prophetic Sciences. He is the author of the best seller book in 2004, Islam and Globalization. Now, he is compiling an Encyclopedia of Hadith on the pattern of Jame Tirmidhi.

AFFILIATION
We are glad to announce that Daru Ulum online's request of an affiliation with Darul Uloom Deoband (waqf) is accepted by the administration of DarulUloom Deoband (waqf). Darul Uloom (waqf) is a well-known and historical Islamic seminary. Degrees and certificates granted by Darul Ulum online will be recognized and accepted by DarulUloom Deoband (waqf).

Amazing... I just took a look at the site and it looks very good masha'Allah!

One thing though, this seems to be aimed at people who can be full time (online) students with multiple hours daily etc.

I think students who are looking for part-time studies but with a similar methodology might be better suited with ShariahProgram.ca's programme.

Actually, if you're a serious student from the West - this is the perfect program for you inshaAllah as classes would start in the evenings. Check out the Time Zones:

There are 3 different time zones. Students are allowed to choose one of them as is convenient.

5 PM Central Time (US & Canada) for students from North America

For those who do not have the luxury of attending a madrasa, online mediums are the best alternative - especially with an excellent teacher such as Mufti Yasir Nadeem. mashaAllah not only is he very well versed in the content area but is also very experienced in using an online medium of instruction.

Why not best of both? Some years back, alhamdulillah I also studied a semester with Mufti Yusuf Mullan which was also excellent mashaAllah. I just checked the www.shariahprogram.ca site and got a better idea:

If I was looking to start my studies now, I'd register to begin with Mufti Yusuf (the first semester just started: first semester syllabus (March 21, 2009 - June 21, 2009)) & then maybe if seriously interested in continuing Alim studies in-depth, I would definitely keep this DU Online program an option as it starts later on Oct. 20, 2009 inshaAllah.

Is this the same Mufti Yasir Nadeem that used to be at IIE in Elgin?
Because the curriculum of this online alim course seems almost identical to IIE's curriculum, what with the number of years, and the various books they use.

We've deliberately chosen to restrict our curriculum to the first 2-3 years of the 'Alim course. Students completing our two year program wishing to become full qualified scholars would need to continue at a Madrasah, and this is understood at the outset.

Entrance into a particular year such as the third at a major Durul Uloom is based on the level of proficiency the student can display at the time of applying. As such, apart from marketing benefit, currently we see no major benefit in persuing accreditation.
