Peace be upon all
I was in a discusson with my friend today where he menioned to me how he heard about this school in Yemen which teaches Mu'tazila teachings and aqida and how he was interested in learning such things. I told based on my very limited knowledge, i had learned that the Mu'tazila were considered heretics by the Sunni ulema. I told him how the Mu'tazila were attacked and disproven by rightly guided scholars such as Imam Ghazali ( Allah's Mercy be given to him). He then told me some of the greatests scholars who've lived such as Ibn Sina and Ibn Rushdi ( I believe those are the two he quoted I could be wrong) were of the Mu'tazila
He then explaine to me how he agreed with the beliefs of the Mu'tazila such as the idea of human logic and understanding being the ultimate distinguisher between truth and falsehood. I told him that such a thing is false, human understanding and logic is both limited and flawed respectively
He explained to me how he also enjoyed their ideas of one being able to achieve Taqwa without the means of external factors such as the Scripture or Prophets. I explained to him that if that were possible then why would Allah in His Absolute Power and Wisdom send Prophets ( peace be upon them) to mankind if one is able to achieve Taqwa without them.
So in the end i would like to understand a few things
1.) How should a Muslim view the Mu'tazila?
2.) were my points valid, for the sake of my own self critique to help better myself for the sake of Allah Ta'ala, and not to make myself feel good
Jazak Allah Khayr
