Breaking the prayer with salam

Is it necessary to do the taslim when one breaks his salah? What if we are standing, in ruku', sajda,...does ruling change if it's nafl or fard salah?

Assalamu Alaykum,

According to Imam Abu Hanifa the taslim is a sunnah, while according to Imam al-Shafi'i it is necessary to say, "as-salamu alaykum" as minimum.

I meant breaking the salah while standing for example, because of an emergency, or jama'at prayer is about to start etc...?
