    Default Clarification - Mawlana Thanwi

    salams,
I'm curious about a recent video i saw where a barelwi cleric is referencing Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (ra) on a dream he had whereby he replaced rasool ullah in the shahadah with ashraf ali...

    anyone heard about this?

Those people use filthy language in their majalis, their majalis are not 'ilmi'. They do not think twice before slandering, they are narrow minded and take quotes outside of context. Their brains are not enhanced enough to understand the scholarly works of the great servants of Islam in this ummah. Most of them are more prone to singing nasheeds (sometimes in tune similar to that of bollywood songs), then knowledge of shariah. They make takfir of all those people who dont agree with them............they dont realise there can be differences of opinion which in itself is a mercy for this ummah.

in light of the above, anything i hear about them to defame/slander someone i would take it in from one ear and throw it out from the other. simple as that.

    Assalam o alaykum,

A murid of Hakim al-Umma Mawlana Thanwi [may Allah have mercy on him] saw a dream in which he was saying, "La ilaha illalah, Ashraf Ali Rasul Allah." Same thing happened when the murid woke up. He tried to recite the Kalima correctly, but it wouldn't come out of his mouth as he had lost control over his tongue. At this he was scared and confused.

So the next morning he came to Mawlana Thanwi and related the dream. Mawlana Thanwi told him that one possible interpretation of this dream is that you really love your Shaykh.

Now Beralwis took this dream and declared takfir of Mawlana Thanwi. Keep in mind that without the takfir card, Beralwism will go out of store. They know that to stay alive, they have to play the takfir card. What else do they have to offer the Ummah?

One is not held responsible for anything uttered in the state of sleep, half sleep or for anything that was seen in a dream as stated clearly in many ahadith as well as books of fiqh. If a person gives talaq to his wife while sleeping, it's not valid. If you accept or leave Islam while in the state of dream, its not valid. Similir is the ruling if a person is drunk and he utters someting kufr, he won't be held responsible for it. Similarly, there isn't any punishment for things said by mistake or when one has lost control of himself.

Also dreams are not always taken on their literal meaning. It is well known that Imam Abu Hanifa [may Allah have mercy on him] saw a dream that he went to the blessed grave of Prophet [Allah bless him and give him peace] and took out the blesssed body of Prophet from the grave. When Imam woke up, he was scared and sweating. He ran to his teacher and told him about the dream. So the teacher told him, if you have really seen this dream, then it means that you will follow the ahadith of Prophet and dug out the rulings of hari'a in everyway possible and spread the Shari'a to different corners of the World. As we all know that this interpretation came true.

This dream is mentioned in Tabir al-Ruya, Tareekh al-Badhdad, Manaqib Kardari, Miftah al-Sa'ada, al-Khayrat al-Hisan, and others.

And if you can read Urdu, refer to Ibarat-e-Akabir by Muhaqqiq Allamah Sarfraz Khan Safdar [may Allah have mercy on him]

My Allah accept your posting Khanbaba,

The answer is thoroughly explained in Allamah Sarfraz Khan Safdars book on page 214. He has given examples of similar incidents occuring to Hadhrat Khwaja Moinuddeen Chisti and Sheikh Shibly. Except the latter mate the mureed pray that kalimah with their names as extention to test the mureed. Sultan-e-Awliya Hadhrat Khwaja nizamuddeen r.a also made references to the sheikh shibli's story in his malfoozat and nobody objected to it then and nobody objects to it now. Barelwi brothers didnt declare hadhrat nizamudeen kafir, so why make the reference to Hadhrat Thanvi. Hadhrat Thanvi didnt actually make him pray either.

In one of Hadhrat Khwaja Moinuddeen Chistis books the same is also mention as Sheikh Shibli where he made the mureed play the kalimah as a test. Nobody declared him kafir.

Allah grant Allamah Sarfraz Khan Safdar a place in Ala illiyeen. He was truely a defender of the akabir of Deoband. A legend who left his wordly abode not long ago, non of us realised his status and effort is defending the righteous until after he had left.

Very strange stuff. Anyone care to explain why someone would even need to do this and how it is acceptable?
