Default Best Places to study Tajweed?

    As salaamu alaykum.

To the best of your knowledge, which countries or areas of the world (e.g. the Maghreb, Sham, Indo-Pak subcontinent, etc.) tend to produce the best Qaris (i.e. tend to produce the individuals that are generally considered to be the best)?

Although I know that ALL THROUGHOUT the Muslim world incredible Qaris are produced, I'm leaning towards Egypt and Syria as being perhaps the places that tend to produce the best Qaris (although that's not to say that all, or most, of the Qaris that they produce are natives to those lands as many people come from all over the world to study there). Does anyone else agree?

Furthermore, in which countries or geographic locations would you guys say that the tradition of learning and/or memorizing the 7 or 10 authentic Qirahs of the Quran is still alive and well, or at least the most practiced? It seems, from my limited knowledge of Islamic scholarship, that the only places where learning more than one recitation seems to be stressed at all is in the Maghreb, but even there it seems like particular emphasis is placed on the Qirah of Hafs and Warsh at the expense of the others.

If anyone could provide the answers to my two questions posed above, it would be most appreciated.

    Jazakallahu Khair.

    Wa'salaam.

Sheikh 'Ali Hani-Amman, Jordan. Jordan doesn't really have much history when it comes to scholarship but I believe that it is on the come up.

    السلام عليكم,

When I was younger, I remember a conversation between a few people who were speaking of a region of the world where the manner of recitation of those people was considered to be the closest to the Prophet :saws:. The reason was given that it was because recitation was taught completely audibly, with no reading from a written Qur'aan at all.

I don't remember what the region was (perhaps Sudan, but that's mostly a guess, I can't really remember), has anyone else ever heard anything similar to this?

Egypt definitely has its reputation. So does Shaam. But if a person can't go there he can substitute by taking classes under any qualified Qari of the sab'a to 'asharah qiraa'ah, which are in many countries.

    As the saying goes...

    Nuzilal qur'anu fee Makkah

    wa quri'a fee Misr

    wa fuhima fee Hind.
