Default When did the Prophet (s.a.w.) ever teach to call on the dead asking their help?

To those who deem it permissible to call on the dead asking their help from them, when did the Prophet (s.a.w.) ever teach his Ummah this practice?

If the Prophet (s.a.w.) never taught this practice, then why would anyone be surprised when other Muslims start to categorise it as Shirk?

If the Prophet (s.a.w.) never taught this practice and even if one feels safe in one’s Iman doing it, why compromise Muslim Unity over a practice that the Prophet (s.a.w.) never actually taught?

May Allah unite the Muslims and establish us firmly on His Din.

Please note that I have not actually declared this practice as Shirk myself.

Nor have I ever practiced it.

On the contrary He taught us the opposite. The examples where he taught us the way to ask Allah directly are many and anyone denying them would be laughed at. But anyways hawwa or pseudo-sufism counts more than sunnah for some people.
Do whatever you want but please don't put it on rasulullah or on the sunnis.

If a person says, "O Muhammad" seeking Rasullah's (Allah bless him and grant him peace) intercession, would you consider it permissible? From what I understand, when a person says, "O Muhammad" he is seeking his intercession, and tawassul is ofcourse not shirk.

    Assalamualaikum

this is a topic of great debate especially in some cases in Madinah. Many Muslims stand in front of the Prophet (Peace be Upon Him) and ask for intercession. This is not shirk as it is just a request that He (Peace be upon Him) requests shafa'at on our behalf to Allah (subhanhu wata'ala). And of course, we request intercession every time we recite the dua after adhaan.

    Praise be to Allah.

I have never seen any evidence from the teachings of the Prophet (s.a.w.) in favour and as you highlighted the evidence is against the practice.

That is why I asked my series of questions to those who deem it permissible and the questions remain to be answered.
