The Fiqh of Marriage & Divorce

An in-depth two session seminar on marriage, divorce and related issues has been organized by the masjid for both brothers and sisters. This course will cover the following:

The pre-requisites and conditions of nikah (marriage), Unmarriageable kin (mahrams), Choosing an ideal spouse, The wali (guardian), Mahr (dowry), Kufū’ (compatibility), The method of the sunna nikah, Polygamy, Zina (adultery/fornication), Walīma, After nikah rights and duties, Rules of divorce, The three types of divorce (talaq), Revoking a divorce (raj‘a), The sunna method of divorce, Khulaʿ, The waiting period (idda), Custody of children (hidana).
These topics will be studied in detail from various sources over the period of 2 weeks. The aim of the course is to provide a better understanding of the juridical (fiqhi) rulings pertaining to marriage, divorce and related issues. Each class will be followed by an opportunity to ask questions relating to the topics covered in the classes. This course is a must if you are thinking of getting married, have recently married, or would like to become better equipped to avoid the hazards of marriage.

Classes will take place for two Saturday mornings (6th June & 13th June) from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM

Students will need to register for the course via Masjid office or emailing info@masjidequba.org.uk. Registration is necessary.

Due to the late notice/advertising for this class it will ONLY take place if sufficient students register for it by the evening of Friday 5th June. Otherwise it will begin from Saturday 13th June with the followup class being held on Saturday 20th June. Anyone who has previously registered or would like to find out if the class will commence on Saturday 6th June are advised to email the masjid on info@masjidequba.org.uk BEFORE coming.

There is also a need for a volunteer with basic (or good?) PowerPoint skills to design the slides that are proposed to be used in the two classes. If there is anyone able to volunteer their time and skills for this please email the masjid.
