I live close to the Jersey Shore near Asbury Park (location of salafi masjid). They are the bashing type of salafis but the brothers are friendly if you are one of them. Ever since I left salafism, we have basically abandoned each other. We used to go the classes at the masjid and hang out with the brothers but they decided not associate with me or my brother anymore because of our "deviance". It has been a long time since I have been to an Islamic event, or class for that matter.

My uncle told me about an ijtema that the Tablighi brothers were having in Somerset, NJ about 1 or 2 years ago but I declined to go because I thought the Tablighis practiced bid'at (na'oodhubillah). But recently I have been basically begging my uncle to find out for me when the next ijtema will be. And now you have told me and may Allah reward you greatly. I will have to let my uncle know insha'Allah.

I want to apoloize in advance for these questions because they seem naive. What exactly is the structure or format of an ijtema/halqa, especially the one that is going to be held in Paterson insha'Allah. The reason I ask is because we have a band of brothers that would like to attend and I just wanted to get some info. I understand that it will be from Jumuah on Friday to Dhuhur on Sunday. Will there be bayaans going on throughout the day and even night? Will all of the bayaans be in Urdu (most of the brothers speak urdu but some of us dont)? Will there be any ulama attending? Will eating and sleeping take place in the masjid? Should we bring our own food and sleeping pillow? Will we leave the masjid for dawah purposes, or for any other reason?

Once again I am very sorry for all of the questions. The reason I ask is because some are going to stay for the entire time insha'Allah but some cant because of work restrictions. I would just like some info so we can maximize the benefit in the time spent in the path of Allah :swt: .

I have been to a ijtema once before and that was in Karachi last summer. It was on a Thursday night at Madani Masjid, tablighi markaz, and it was very beneficial. The environment was very uplifting. There were ulama who gave bayaans from maghrib until about fajr time. Every masjid had its own gathering area. Brothers brought their own food and sleeping equipment. After fajr brothers who volunteered to go out in the path of Allah :swt: were sent out on their way. This is the only experience that I had with it. But since this is America I would expect it would be a little different. Wallahu a'alam.

By the way, how many brothers have attended in past years?

    for all of your efforts.

    Wasalaamu alaikum

      • The bayans will be in English
      • There will be Ulama attending the gathering
      • Food will be served at nominal prices.
      • You must bring your own sleeping stuff.
      • Bayans will take place after every salah.
      • No talks over night.
