Mumbai, June 18, 2009
The Bandra police on Thursday filed a case against film star Shah Rukh Khan for* “outraging religious sentiments”.
The complaint was registered by the Mumbai Aman Committee, a religious organisation, in objection to his remark in a recent magazine[ Time style luxury, vol I] interview in which he listed Prophet Mohammed as one of the most unimpressive personalities in history.
If the case is proved, Khan could go to jail for three years, police said. Khan is presently in the United States and his statement would be taken when he returns; he will not be arrested immediately, said Senior Police Inspector Prakash George. He added: “We will take action after completing the probe.”
Zarar Qureshi, secretary of the committee, claimed: “Shah Rukh Khan bracketed the Prophet along with Adolf Hitler and Winston Churchill.”
Farid Sheikh, president of the committee, said they would not allow Khan’s body to be buried anywhere in Maharashtra when he dies.
