Moulana Abdur Rauf is related to me - he is not from the Prophet (peace be upon him) lineage - his father and grandfather were shaykhs.
Hazrat Maulana Abdur Rauf Saheb is a Diwaan. His father was Maulana Abdul Quddoos Diwaan who was a student of Maulana Shabbir Ahmed Usmani. His father was Maulana Yusuf Diwaan Saheb who wrote a translation of Nurul Idhah in Urdu which was recently completed by Maulana Marghoob of Deswbury, and published by Jameatul Qiraat Kafleta, Gujrat, India.
Now Maulana Yusuf Diwaan's Nana (maternal grandfather) was the great Sufi Nana. His name was Sulaiman and because he was a Sufi Shaikh he was known as Sulaiman Sufi. His sons and grandsons carry the surname "Sufi".
He was also a Qadhi Sharee in Sachin where the Ahkaam of Islaam were the law of the day. That is where they got the name Diwaan from. Diwaan means register.
His father migrated from Makkatul Mukarramah to India for Dawah purposes. The Jamea of Randair, Madrasah Sufi Baagh and Jameah Dabhel were all established through his Faiz and Barakah.
As for him being of the leniage of the Rasool sallalahu alaihi wa sallam then the family members have an Ikhtilaaf. But since there is no sanad for the claim of being from the noble leniage it is best to refrain from such claims.
So in ascribing him to the great Shaikh Maulana is called 'Sufi'.

ويبقى الدهر ما كتبت يداه
فلا تكتب بخطك غير شئي
يسرك في القيامة أن تراه
he,s very pious
The reason for all trouble on earth, is that people have lost sight of their Lordís Will behind all events. They have lost sight of the hand of the One Who is testing them through those events. They have stopped seeing events as tests from their Lord. Therefore they continue failing those tests. "
even when i was a kid, i used to do salaam with hazrat whenever i saw him in the mosque. he used to smile and do salaam with both hands. the way hazrat shook your hands he made you feel as if you are better then him and that he is honouring you. thats how humble hazrat is.
the shaykh's an abdaal??? thats news to me
