Awliya Allah are 'the Friends of Allah' and essentially are pious believers who have reached a ceratin degree of ma'rifat and closeness to Allah through abstinence from sins and performance of good deeds. Prophets are individuals chosen by Allah to deliver His Message through direct communication and their status cannot be achieved by even the highest Wali. Although Awliya also have some communication with Allah, their communication can be faulty and not certain whereas the communication of the Prophets (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon them) is certain and definite. The same is the case for any miracles they perform. Also, a Wali can lose his status and can perform sins whereas Prophets cannot and are protected and free from sins.

the knowledge of things not known to him"
(Fazaa'il-e-A'maal, Virtues of the Holy Qur'an, Part 1, under Hadith 8)

    As Salaam U Alaikum.

That pretty much sums it up, another important

factor, is that Every Prophet is a Wali and a

Prophet, whereas every Wali is not a Prophet.

Aulia Allah, Wali, Means Friend of Allah. Can

only be Allahs Friend if He Obeys Allah and His

    Rasool(Salallahu alai wa salam).

These Aulia Allah, are the Inheritors of the

Prophet.. In the Hadith which says, "Ulama are

    the Inheritors of the Anbia"

Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani, explains that not

every one who comes out of the Madrassas can

claim to be Ulama, except those who Having Ilm,

Put that Ilm into practice, and that Practice

(Amal or Aamaal) should be with SINCERITY. Then

they are worthy of being called Ulama, or

Friends of Allah, or wali, or Aulia. These are

the BELIEVERS, and we are the Muslims.

Thats how the Quraan differenciates between the

Muslim, and the Believer. The formers faith is

stuck in the throat, the latters Faith enters his Heart.

Similarily, Information is reading, and stops at

Book browising or in this age, web browising

islamic literature. Knowledge comes from acting

on this information. This is possible only in

the tarbiat of a Sheikh who is Allahs Friend,

Wali, Aulia Allah, and that is his purpose and

capability as the Inheritor of the Prophet

    (S.a.W).

Are all sheikhs of the path awilya?

Just straying a bit but this other question is also important for me:

Does the acceptance of agreement with a sheikh leads to the non-performance of sins?

(thank you for the link but I can't understand urdu)

As Salaam U Alaikum Sister GreenPeace.

As I had mentioned earlier, Awliya means, Friend of Allah. If any one wants to be Allahs friend, he or she would have to prove his or her sincerity in their friendship with Allah.

Someone once asked why Allah keeps His friends in difficulty, and was answered, 'So that not everyone can claim to love Allah without proving their claim.'

About your question: Are all sheikhs of the path awliya?

No true Sheikh of any Path will proclaim himself or herself to be Awliya. And the reason for this is, 'Imaan is between FEAR and HOPE'

Hazrath Abubakr Siddiq(May Allah be Pleased with him) used to say, 'If any one was to enter hell because of their lack of good deeds, I FEAR Abubakr would be the first, and if any one would go to Jannah because of Allahs Grace, Abubakr HOPES he would be the first.'

Its different that people recognise them as Awliya, because Allah informs jibriel(AS) to inform the other Angels, and in turn inform the Makhlook that Allah has accepted so and so as His FRIEND. (Its so subtle, the heart recognises this message.)

A Sheikh is someone who has travelled on the Path with the guidence of his Sheikh, and when he has learnt all the necessary aspects of following what was taught by the Prophet(SAW), and has reached that level where his Sheikh sees in him the capacity to guide others, he then gives him Khilafat, which means now he can guide and teach others.

    Your second question:

Does the acceptance of agreement with a sheikh leads to the non-performance of sins?

    The answer is NO.

It is in the nature of the human being to do good and bad. This is what is termed as 'Bashariyat' Human Nature.

Angels cannot sin, Shaitan can never do good, especially after he fell from Allahs Grace. But Mankind, if he follows Islaam, under the guidence of a Sheikh, will do good, sometimes do wrong (which we call sin) and ask for Allahs Forgiveness, Which Allah is always willing to forgive.

On the day of judgement Allah will not ask the sinners why they sinned. He will say, 'I gave you enough time, and you never thought to ask Me for My forgiveness?'

Actually, the Sheikh teaches you how to do whatever you do 'FOR THE LOVE OF ALLAH'. And then you fall in love with Allah. So your obedience is for the love of Allah.

In your journey on the path, there are different stages, and he, your guide, Sheikh will take you along that journey, and safeguard you from the pitfalls on the way.

    walykum assalam,

Can the awilya/sheikh still guide one, after death? If a sheikh dies, does it becomes necessary to find another sheikh? Can both awilya and prophets interact with us beyond the grave?

(I am sorry for all the questions...a bit confused still)
