then a guy comes in and spots that it says Ya rasoolallah in one corner on wall o sumfink
graps it
smashes it
fair enough if he thought it wa shirk o smat
cudav told sum1 to take it down but this is just a disgrace in my opinion

Of course it was disrespectful. And who cares if he thought it was shirk (which it isn't)? It's not his property to destroy like that; he had no right. Someone should have confronted him...told him if he doesn't like it, he can pray elsewhere. I personally would press charges...property damage, vandalism, whatever.

You can guess which Saudi Manhaj he follows then. Give him dawah, chat with him, ask him if you can smash his car since you assume it can bring him towards shirk.

All of us confronted him told him to get out the masjid.

It isn't shirk (depends on correct belief) and even so, he had no right to do that. You should not have told him to leave the masjid because then that person would sulk and his hatred would grow even stronger. It would have been better to explain that what he had done was wrong. If he objected to the sign, he should have contacted the masjid administration to deal with it and simply stopped going to the particular masjid if refused. After all, smashing a sign would not change the aqaid of majlis or the imam.

My husband was telling me something similar that happened in a city where he used to live. The imam of the masjid (who is also an 'aalim) calmly went to the man and explained to him nicely about what he did. In the end the man sincerely apologized.

he tried to calm him down
but am not sure what happend once they spoke...

I believe that the conduct of the Prophet with regards to the bedouin who urinated in the Masjid would be the best example to follow in such a situation.

Anyways, this just shows how important Adab is. I wonder what this person smashes when people disrespect the Prophet , as is the common order of the day (as sad as it is to say).
