Did Imam Abu Hanifahs two greatest students Imam Mohammed ash Shaibani and Imam Abu Yusuf used to do raf'aydan in prayer because they saw the evidence for it and thought it to be correct even though their teacher did not.
Is this claim by salafis correct?

Wa alalikum salam

I am sure this is a lie from these salafi claimants. On the contrary you'll see Imam al-Shaybani quoting narrations for not doing raful yadayn in his Muwatta and elsewhere. Tell them to produce their proof(s) if they are telling the truth.

Well we know Imam Shafi came into contact with Imam Sahybani and im sure they stayed in each others company for some time.

So Imam Shaybani did come into contact with shafi'i fiqh. But I could not say on wether raf al yadain was adopted by him from Imam Shafi'i

No they did not. For further information, you can refer to Imam Muhammad Rahimahullah's Muwatta. As far as I remember, he mentioned the Ahadeeth of Rafa in his Muwatta in the same order as Imam Nisai Rahimahullah did, i.e. First he gave the hadeeth of beginning the salaah, then the narrations of doing rafa at every khaf and rafa, then gave his conclusion upon the tark saying that it's not like by us to do rafa except in the beginning.

One thing you'll notice a lot about the Salafis, especially those belonging to Indo-Pak Subcontinent, that their favorite hobyy is lying upon the salaf.
