I have a question about the speed of recitation for memorization repetitions in Mauritania, please. As I am trying to better understand the methods described in the following thread, I calculated the 'time' for Qur'an at a pace of '1 minute per page', in Post #55, along with a few videos of the students reciting very fast:

    http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/show...uritania/page6

I imagine that students recite slowly for corrections to the Sheikh, but how fast do they recite for memorization and review? My children and I use the speed of the late Sheikh Hussary tarteel: http://flawlessquran.com/site/?p=168 for learning, memorizing, and review.

And are the methods described in post #1, of the same thread, accurate? How does it differ from how you personally learned and teach?

    Jazaaki Allahu khaira.
    as salaam 'alaikum.

Jazaaki Allahu khaira! This was my instinct, but I was unsure, until you validated it as a professional. And if you don't mind, I will copy it over to the thread about the method.

I am sooo inspired by you, masha'Allah, and wish that my children and I could study directly with you. Alhamdulillah for everything. Please include us in your du'a.

and just for comparison, here are recordings:

Mujawwad style by al-Husari complete mp3 recording set:
    http://flawlessquran.com/site/mahmud...ttal-mujawwad/

is slightly slower in speed and has more maqaamat than his murataal style:

Mahmud Khalil al-Husari - Murattal style complete mp3 recording set:
    http://flawlessquran.com/site/2011/0...urattal-mp3-3/

however, there are others who recite with murattal and recite faster, such as Sheikh Minshawi:

    http://flawlessquran.com/site/2011/0...recording-set/

    and Sheikh Muhammad Jebril:
    http://jebril.com/

and this a taraweeah recording that is extremely fast:
    http://flawlessquran.com/site/2011/0...-ayoob-essack/

However, I find that Sheikh Hussary's, ra, tarteel is good for learning to recite, memorization, and review; and more beautiful sounding to learn (indirectly through mimicking) a basic maqaamat, rather than using his mu'allim recitation, which is a very flat and more of a spoken sounding style:
    http://flawlessquran.com/site/muallim-mp3/

and then one can easily move on to his mujawwad recordings to learn more maqaamat, and if you really want to master it, then listening to the late Sheikh Mustafa Ismail, or Sheikh Abdul-Basit is the next level.

    Wa Allahu 'alim.
