Question The word "Maulana" in Ahadeeth & Traditions

    Asslamo Allaikum,

I know of only two references.

    1) On the occasion when Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) was returning from Makkah after Umrah and marrying Sayyidatunna Maimoona and the younger daughter of Sayyidina Hamza came running and calling “Ya Umm, Ya Umm, O uncle and O uncle” and the dispute occurred between Sayyidina Ali (RA), Sayyidina Ja’far (RA) and Sayyidina Zaid Ibn Haritha (RA) as to who will be the guardian. Sayyidina Ali (RA) grabbed and handed the girl over to Sayyidatunna Fatima and said, “take care of your cousin”

Sayyidina Ja’far (RA) said, “No I will take care of her”

Sayyidina Ali (RA) said, “I am her cousin”

Sayyidina Ja’far (RA) said, “I am her cousin, too”

Sayyidina Zaid Ibn Haritha (RA) said, “She is the daughter of my uncle” as Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) and Sayyidina Hamzah (RA) were brothers (through suckling) and Sayyidina Zaid Ibn Haritha (RA) was the adopted son of Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam).

Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) gave the custody to Sayyidina Jaf’ar and to console the Sahaba (RA), he said:

    a) To Sayyidina Jaf’ar (RA):

You are similar to me in manners and in looks

    b) To Sayyidina Ali (RA):

You are from me and I am from you

    c) Sayyidina Zaid Ibn Haritha (RA)

You are our brother and our companion

    2) The second incident is in Musnad Ahmed where Ali Sayyidina (RA) was addressed as “Asslamo Allaikum Ya Maulana”
