    Default Another Shafi'i Fiqh Question

    Assalamu Alaikum,

I am a bit confused about an issue. As far as I know, Surah Fatiha is obligatory to recite for the Shafi'is whereas the sura after it is a sunna (and not a main sunna for which a forgetfulness prostration is required).

However, in Sheikh Nuh's translation of the Maqasid, he adds in 3.13(4) ''ommitting the sura necessitates a forgetfulness prostration''.

    So what IS the position?

This is important as there might arise emergency situations where you need to make the prayer as brief as possible.

    Jazakumullah Khair

    Wassalam

That does'nt seem to be the mu'tamad. In the Tuhfa and in the hashiya of al-Nihaya it says that omitting the sura doesn't necessitate sujud al-sahw, and this is also the position mentioned in The Reliance of the Traveller. wa Allahu A'lam.

However, we should never omit anything that is sunna, and if there is a case of real emergency then it would be fine to omit sujud al-sahw since its sunna, not fard.
