if you don't want to use alcohol-based vanilla, here's another alternative:

    http://www.rodellevanilla.com/vanill...r-alcohol-free

I've asked for the glycerine and here's the answer:

"It is not derived from animals it is derived from one of the following or combination of any of the following: palm oil, palm kernel oil, coconut oil, or rapeseed oil."

But I think in Hanafi school, there is a different rulings regarding alcohol-based products and maybe later Hanafi brothers will give the answer.

Mufti Abdullah Patel and Mufti Ebrahim Desai have different views on whether we can consume vanilla extract. Is it allowed for the individual to choose which opinion they follow? As, both are hanafi scholars?

Also, alot of food products contain this flavouring.

    Assalam O Alaikum

According to US FDA and Canadian FDA foodr egulation Vanilla Extract must contain a minimum of 35% ethyl alcohol otherwise it will not be called Vanilla Extract. Vanilla Extract has standard of Identity in the USA. According to Muftisaheban of Muslim Consumer Group(their names and phone numbers are mentioned under "Criteria" section of www.muslimconsumergroup.com) Vanilla Extract is a Haram ingredients. Please do not pay attention to claim alcohol free vanilla extract because natural vanillin is extracted from vanilla beans with alcohol and water then they evaporate the alcohol and add Propylene Glycol to claim alcohol free. Our Muftisahaben said any Halal ingredient when contacted with Haram ethyl alcohol it became haram too. Please the read the article on Vanilla on our website. The only Halal vanilla or vanilla flavor is if the CO2 is used to extract natural vanillin from vanilla beans which is a very expensive processing method. Pure Vanilla Beans and artificial Vanillin are only Halal items. Also do not pay attention to vanilla bean crushed or vanilla bean speck used in ice cream because they are obtained after vanilla beans exposed to alcohol and water extraction to obtained natural vanillin and left over beans are used to make Vanilla bean crushed or vanilla bean speck to be used in ice cream and other food products. Please remember natural vanillin from vanilla beans is extracted only from use of alcohol and water. This natural vanillin is used to make oleoresin vanilla, then this oleoresin vanilla is used to make various strength of vanilla flavors and vanilla extract. The CO2 extraction is very rare, only few companies has it. No food company in US used the CO2 extracted natural vanillin. Artificial vanillin or vanillin is made from tree woods without use of any alcohol and it is 100% Halal. Muslims should also considers the views of Muslim food scientists on food ingredients and their Halal status because they are involved day by day in the use of food ingredients beside the Islamic scholars.
