Default `Awrah of Woman, Hanbali Madhhab (Text Q)

    assalamu `alaykum wa rahmatullah
I found the following at http://mac.abc.se/home/onesr/h/148.html

"The Awrah of al-Hurrah al-Balighah is: All of her. [al-Insaf 1/449]"

I am so clueless about the book in which this quote is found. Is "al Insaf" part of a longer title? Who wrote the book?

Does this mean that the niqab is fard in the Hanbali madhhab? Or is it considered wajib? Is it the same on both sides of the Big Pond?

    Walaykum salaam sister,

I don't think it's considered obligatory; even in Saudi Arabia--which I think enforces Hanbali fiqh--there is no requirement to wear niqab, only hijab and abaya.

I am not too sure because the Saudi ulama do say that women should wear the niqab and it is even better if one eye is covered. You'll find that mostly non-Saudi women do not wear the niqab in Saudi Arabia. It's usually Egyptian/Syrian/Lebanese women that go without the niqab in public.
