Muhaddith Shaykh Yunus (DB) from SaharunPur

As salaam alaikum wa rahmatullah,

I heard that Shaykh Yunus does Raf'ul Yadain and today it was confirmed by a young scholar who knows him personally. Infact he said that it would be more approriate to not consider him a Hanafi, but he is the greatest man alive in the field of Hadeeth. He mentioned a certain Shaykh Abu Bakr Ghaazipuri who has written much against Shaykh Yunus's positions against the Hanafi Madhab, and Allah knows best.

Whether he does raf'ul Yadain or not, is not our matter of discussion. Again, suppose for instance, we admit he is not Hanafi, does that make him bad..? In my eyes, and many others will agree with me, in this world currently, there is no Hanafi Alim that can even consider reaching his status as a muhaddith or any other matters in the field of Hadeeth.

As for other points, he is a Firm Deobandi, he teaches in a Deobandi Darul'Uloom (2nd highest after Deoband itself, in India), there is no question about that..

Also, Maulana Abu Bakr did write an article in relation to Shaikh, in his monthly magazine, however in his next edition, he wrote an article taking back what he had written previously and changed his thoughts about Sheikh...

Whether he does raf'ul Yadain or not, is not our matter of discussion.

It is a matter of discussion & concern because the Shaykh (hafizahullah) is regarded as one of the greatest Hadeeth Scholars in the world and the greates Hadeeth Scholar teaching in a Hanafi Madrasah, and Hanafis are normally distinguished by the fact that they do not practise Raf 'ul Yadain.

Again, suppose for instance, we admit he is not Hanafi, does that make him bad..?

Why such a question? I didn't insinuate at all that being a non-Hanafi is a bad thing. Personally, I admire him for being bold in his Ijtihaadaat and it demonstrates his Ikhlaas and love for the Sunnah and for Rasulullah (sallallahu 'alahi wa sallam) which I feel he had inherited from Shaykh Muhammad Zakariyyah Khandhalwi (rahimahullah).

Absolutely! In fact there probably isn't a non-Hanafi Alim who can match him in the field of Hadeeth.

Bro - I maybe wrong but he has ijazat not khilafat. They are two different things altogether.

He has a few khalifas in india, one by the name of Sh Hanif Kharod, he travels to the UK each ramzan and in mostly in bolton and leicester.

He is close to Mufti Shabbir - Darul uloom bury

Shaykh ul Hadeeth Abu Yusuf Riyadh ul Haq (leicester) is also a khalifa of Shaykh Yunus Muhaddith, who was extremely impressed by Shaykh Abu Yusuf's young age and yet his deep insight and breadth of knowledge in Hadeeth, Arabic and related sciences. As he himself tested him. May Allah preserve both Mashaikh. ameen.

He was the 1st Khalifa of Shaykh Yusuf Motala and this servant has heard it from Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq himself when he was once asked a direct question that Shaykh Yunus gave him khilafat as well and not just ijazah in hadeeth. There is no doubt in this matter. You may ask Mufti Shabeer or Shaykh Abdur Raheem Limbada if you wish to confirm. Yes I can confirm that as well I heard it from Shaykh Riyadh Ul Haqq himself.
