    Walaikum assalam

I would recommend Asan Tarjuma(Urdu) and Noble Quran(English) by Mufti Taqi usmani. If further details are required than definitely Maariful Quran by Mufti Shafi(R.A)

    Wassalam

Leave the ibn katheer for now..

Start of with Quran Made Easy by Mufti A H Elias. Once you have read it.. it is almost 40-50% translation of Tafseer Jalalayn. Once you have read through it. You can start reading Mufti Taqi's translation or Ma'ariful Quran. You can also look in to Anwaarul Bayan. both are excellent.

Ibn Katheer in english is too abridged in my experience to represent the original.
If you know arabic or urdu then there could be other recomendations.

    Salaam-e-masnuun.
If you are looking for a good quality translation with a medium sized tafseer from classical scholars as well as recent scholars then I would recommend Tafsir Ishraq al Ma'ani by Syed Iqbal Zaheer. It is available with Iqra Publications, Bangalore. (youngmuslimdigest.com)
Mufti Shafi's Ma'arif al Qur'aan is also easily available in India in English and MUST NOT BE MISSED.
As far as M Muhsin Khan and Shaykh Hilali's Noble Qur'aan is concerned, it is acceptable and I would advise you to read all three either in sequence or together to understand why I say so. Wasalaam.

    Bismillah
I cocure with all the comments but I would recomend to use Alimah Ayesha Beweleys Translation titlted Noble Quran.
    http://www.amazon.com/Noble-Quran-Ab.../dp/1874216363
also accompany it with Tafseers which have been mentioned by others in their email.

    Mariful Quran

Illuminating Discourses on the Noble Quran (5 Vol)

The Meanings of the Noble Quran

Often non English speaking writer may miss the subtlties in translation although have indepth understnading.

I personally like the one put out by Oxford Classics (can't remember the translator); Ahmed Ali's translation is also quite nice, although it does contain some questionable content.

    As Salaam U Alaikum.

Since you mentioned that U R from India, You can buy The Quraan which is freely available almost at all shops selling Islamic litrature. The Quraan has Arabic script, Transliteration (By Haleem Ilyasi) and english translation. There are three columns.
    The transliteration is excellent.
