Barelwis, Shi’ahs, Shaykh Jailani & Ilm al-Ghayb

Instead of starting a new thread i thought i could ask the query here.

When did these following beliefs begin within the ummah

- Hadhir nadhir -omnipresent(muhammed s.a.w)

- Made of Allah s.w.a noor

- Milad un nabi - I know it began 600 years after the death of rasullah via some leader..

- Raks and handra

- He s.a.w has the entire knowledge of the universe - ilmul ghaib

I would like to know how long have these beliefs been going for.

When Islam started spreading quickly By the Rule of the 4 Caliphs The Nation had to confront Other Nations and in Later years The Islamic beliefs started mixing with Other cultures and beliefs Like those of Persia and India thus these things stated showing up, This is mainly because There weren't that many scholars (Many of'em traveled back to The Arab lands to study) on the border areas Unlike Cairo or Damascus or Madinah or Baghdad... Where the Strange ideas were spotted easily and eliminated by the society and the scholars.

One of my friend had recommend me to listen to the speeches of Hazrath Maulana Syed Anzar Shah Qasmi (DB) to know about the history and the origins of the Barelvi’s.

I believe there are few of his speeches even on youtube.

I myself haven’t heard them yet because of my busy schedules, but from what I have heard from my friend, his speeches are very good on this subject and are worth listening.

Correct me if im wrong here but i have a theory here but unsure if im right.

The muslims who follow the ulama of deoband follow the pure and simple version of islam which was followed by the sahabas r.a their students, the four imams and years after that until new additions were introduced.

Now in history i believe these muslims following the deobandi school have existed throughout time conquering countries and spreading islam.

They have been in arabia and many other countries and when dawah spread to india i think via muhammed bin qasim they settled there aswel.

I've read about what happened to the ullam in india with the britsh and how the school of deoband was formed.

I believe the muslims following this way ( without innovation) have existed throughout history and could trace their roots to the prophet s.a.w!

Unlike the ahle hadith (salafis) who are through the hambali madhab but have been small in number and throughout the years their views have differed.

So concerning the muslims following the school of deoband would you suggest my theory on their history is correct?

Also another point......

When is it some say deobandis follow a suif order like naqshbani, chisti etc... Aint the practises in these orders contrary to the sunnah?

Assalam o alaykum,

Since you have quoted the above ahadith from a book of ‘Allamah Ibn al-Jawzi (may Allah have mercy on him), then why not ask him what are his views on issue of Ilm-i-ghayb? Let him be the judge on this matter?

He quotes a fatwa of Sayyiduna ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) as follows,

قال ابن عباس: هذه الخمس لا يعلمها ملَك مقرَّب ولا نبيٌّ [مرسَل] مصطفى

“These five (unseen matters) are not known to anyone; neither to any closest angel nor to most prominent prophet.” (Zad al-Masir fi ‘Ilm al-Tafsir li Ibn Jawzi, under 31:34)

And he narrates from Allamah Zajjaj (d: 311H / may Allah have mercy on him),

قال الزجاج: فمن ادَّعى أنه يعلم شيئاً من هذه كفر بالقرآن لأنه خالفه

“One who claims to know any of these five matters, he disbelieves in the Glorious Qur’an.” (Zad al-Masir fi ‘Ilm al-Tafsir li Ibn Jawzi, 31:34)
