    Default Saying "Ya Rasul Allah"

When you say Ya Rasul Allah i'di illahi li yateeni ________________ (Oh Messenger of God make du'a to my God to give me ______________) I know we do not believe in the Omnipresence of the Prophet but many authentic scholars have declared this type of Tawassul authentic (especially Arabs - not so much on the Indo-Pak Subcontinent) so how does the request get to Rasul Allah ? Do the angels carry it to him? Does Allah (SWT) just allow him to hear it? Or what?

    Jazakallahu Khayrun

    As Salaamu Alaykum,

Before answering the question, it is important to know the meaning of Tawassul.

Supplicating to Allah by means of an intermediary, whether it be a living person, dead person, a good deed, or a name or Attribute of Allah Most High is known as Tawassul.

In other words, it is when one Says: "O Allah, accept my dua/complete for me such and such a task/give me such and such through the blessings of such and such/the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam."

The actual method is when one, himself, asks Allah Ta'ala for his need through the means of an intermediary and not asking the intermediary of supplicating to Allah for one's need.

Nevertheless, the people of Mussa Alayhis Salaam made requests to Mussa Alayhis Salaam to make supplications on their behalf (Surah al-Baqarah) and it is our belief that the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam is alive in his grave.

Nevertheless, Tawassul is preferred when the supplication is made by the person using the Prophet or a Saint as an intermediary.

The question remains as to how the request reaches the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam.

In regards to this we can look at the answers given for the method in which anything reaches the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam, for example Durood.

Allah Ta’ala has power over making anything possible. We know that our Durood is sent to the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam through the angels and in the same manner our requests and ‘tawassul’ could also reach him.

When standing in front of the grave of the beloved Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam Allah may make it possible for the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam to hear us directly.

Furthermore, it should be noted, that our belief is that the Durood reaches there, how it is done is within the power of Allah Ta’ala who can make any method possible.

    Wallahu A’lam

    Wasalaam.
