Living as an American in the UK

I noticed there are some brothers on this forum who migrated to the UK from the States (or Canada). InshAllah I was planning the very same in the near future since I have a couple of cousins who did this as well. Some of the benefits they say are a tightly knit Muslim community (as compared to many parts of America) which lets their kids grow up in a more Islamic environment not to mention the great amount of scholars and Masajid in the UK. So can anyone tell of their experiences. Do you get a lot of nagging because of your accent like "yankee" etc or is it just a stereotype. How do your fellow Muslims treat you? Jazak Allah khayr

I wouldn't move to the UK; no gun rights! Not to mention, why would you want to live in such a big brother society in which the government feels the need to involve itself so heavily within your everyday life? What with the cameras, the harassment of non-whites by immigration officials, restrictions on freedom of speech, etc.

If you want to live in a community with a heavy Muslim presence, simply move up to Dearborn, Michigan. Granted it is Detroit (barf!), but at least Dearborn does have a large Muslim community.

If I had to move out of the UK - I'd move to Makkah(if that's possible) - end of.

Dearborn Michigan?? lol....not all that great....cousins told me problem with halal meat (shias control slaughter houses) and Detroit is really run down/ghetto.

I thought Dearborn was all Shi'a?

As for the problems in UK, I think they'll be better insha'Allah once the Tories come to power, as they've been pretty strongly against all the big brother stuff from the building plus they defended hijab when the socialist atheist Labour party called it oppression.

I don't think that is at all true. And I moved here from the US. If anything, it's the opposite.

I live in US, and find people really humble and vulnerable for da'wah. I met rich people and found the same thing.

This is the only reason I enjoy living in US.

So, it seems a different experience for you.

What I mean to say is that the people here are the opposite of how that brother described. They too are very humble and open to da'wah. I'm not saying that our US brothers/sisters are not.

Brother if you want to move here, then feel free, you will be treated in ways that Allah has planned for you. Looking into people's experiances doesnt necessarily mean you will get the same treatment, as respect belongs to Allah alone, and Only He can bless you with it.

UK and USA all have their fair share of problems. But living as a Muslimah in UK, this is where home is and I thank Allah for all the good that is here, may Allah give this peace and comfort to all Ameen
