Praying salah in a disabled toilet etc.

Assalamu alaikum,

I think what the brother means is a toilet for the disabled. Anyway I asked this question to one mufti and he said that it is technically permissible as long as the body part does not come in contact with anything impure during the salaat. In fact it says in Beheshti Zewar that if there is a piece of cloth with impurity on one corner and pure on the remaining portions then it will be permissible to pray salaat on the pure portion. There are other examples given as well - I suggest if the brother is interested he can check it out. But overall it will be permissible as long as there is contact with najis. Also if the pure cloth is placed over an impure ground it will be permissible to pray on top of the pure cloth.

Having Najasah on the prayermat (for example) and actively choosing to pray in a Toilet are two separate matters in my humble and unqualified opinion.

Moreoever there is no technical difference between praying in a disabled Toilet and a normal Toilet, would someone exaplain the difference to me?

The advice below sounds more like it i.e. contact the Ulama.

Ummm, I'm pretty sure you can not even take the name of Allah in the toilet, or read Qur'aan, much less pray in it!

In fact you're not even allowed to answer salaam in the toilet, you should just clap your hands so the person knows you are there.

And to the original questioner, is it really a good idea to ask for fatwas on matter like this from random people that you don't know on the internet?

According to 'Zad Al Mustaqni' there are 6 places where it is 'invalid' to pray!

1) Graveyard
2) Toilet
3) Bathhouse
4) Camel's Pasture
5) In unlawfully taken land
6) or on the roof of any of the above

It is invalid to pray towards them!!!!!!

As for praying in the bathroom, that is not allowed, whether it is a place that is only for bathing or it is a place for relieving oneself, because it is the abode of the devils and the place where ‘awrahs are uncovered. Al-Tirmidhi (317), Abu Dawood (492) and Ibn Maajah narrated from Abu Sa‘eed al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “All the earth is a place of prayer except graveyards and bathrooms.” The hadeeth was classed as saheeh by Ibn Hibbaan and al-Albaani in Saheeh Sunan al-Tirmidhi.

This hadeeth indicates that prayers offered in the bathroom are not valid, hence it is not permissible to do that except in the case of necessity, such as if the harm that will befall you from your parents is extreme and you cannot pray anywhere else, even by putting prayers together as mentioned above. In that case it is permitted for you to pray in the bathroom.

Question:I was wondering if when travelling especially in the city, and if it were difiicult to find a place to pray salah is it permissible to pray salaah in the disable toilet room as the room would be bigger and private and ample space would be available. Also if there is any other advice you could give regarding the issue of finding a suitable place to pray.

It is highly possible to find a suitable place whilst travelling for prayers. There are many parks and also rooms in train platforms etc. to perform Salaah. However, as you have asked, if there is no resort and no place at all, then it will be permissible for you to perform Salaah in a disabled toilet making sure it is clean.

I also asked a simliar question about reciting the Dua for Wudhu in the Bathroom (which has a toilet in it) and the Mufti, very well known to everyone here said that it was allowed as long as there was no Najasah around and that it could be recited in your heart or in a low tone.

So basically, keep the toilet clean, flush and odur less if you ask me. (this is standard procedure lol)
