Here's something Basic about him, Maybe I'll write more serious stuff tomorrow:
The Great Sahabi Ali Bin Abi Talib May Allah be pleased with him is the cousin of Prophet Mohammad PBUH , His Father was Abu Talib Abd Manaf bin Abdul Muttalib, and his mother, Fatima bint Asad bin Hashim - may Allah be pleased with both.
Ali RAA Was born 10 years before the Wahi descended on Mohammad PBUH, he was raised in the house of the Rassul and was the youngest amongst his brothers. As soon as the prophet PBUh receive revelation he called Ali RAA to believe in one God and Ali Accepted thus becoming the first child to enter Islam.
When Abu Talib Saw Ali Pray with the Messenger PBUH he asked “My Boy what is this religion you follow?” Ali replied “O Father I believe in the Rassul and accept what he reveals from Allah So I pray with him and follow him” Abu Talib Said “I Believe he called you for a good cause so stay with him always”.
The prophet PBUH loved Ali RAA and he used to tell him “You are from me and I am from you” [Bukhari] and also told him later “Only a Believer loves you and a Munafiq Hates you” [Muslim].
When the prophet PBUh wanted to immigrate to Medinah He ordered Ali RAA to sleep in his bed and in the night of Hijrah under the disguise of night a group of assassins from the different tribes came holding sharp swords and they stood in ambush for the prophet PBUH behind his door. Allah told his messenger of this plan and ordered the prophet to go outside the house through the enemies and he did while Allah blinded the sight of the disbelievers so the prophet PBUh threw the dust on their faces while reading the following verse “And We have put a bar in front of them and a bar behind them, and further, We have covered them up; so that they cannot see.” When the sun had risen the Kouffar woke up and attacked the house to hit the sleeping prophet only to find his young cousin Ali in his bed, He then jumped out of bed and stood facing them mockingly and challenging their pride.
Ali RAA remained in mecca for three days after the prophet PBUH had left, he was ordered to give the people their belongings as his cousin instructed. When he left he found that the prophet PBUH had made a brotherhood between the Mouhajirun and the Ansars so he asked the prophet to make him a brother of the ansars as well(He might have felt left behind) then the prophet PBUh told him “You are my brother in this world and in the hereafter” [ibn barr].
The Prophet PBUH had given Ali RAA glad tidings that he will be from the ten who will surely enter heaven and he gave him his daughter Fatimah RAA then Ali gave her a Mehr.
He got Al Hassan and Al Hussein from the prophet’s daughter.
One Day the prophet PBUH went to Dar’ul Ilm to seek Ali RAA but he never found him then he asked his wife about him “O’Fatimah where is your cousin?” She said “in the Mosque” So he went to him and he found that his clothing had fallen to the ground and he was all covered in Sand (Turab in Arabic) So the prophet PBUh kindly started wiping the sand from his body while telling him “sit still O Abu Turab.. Sit still O Abu Turab.”[Bukhari]
Ali RAA had fought in all the Ghazawat (Battles) with Mohammad PBUH and was known for his bravery and in the day of Khaybar the prophet PBUH said: “I Will give the Banner tomorrow to a Man that Allah and his messenger love, Allah will grant victory by his hands” [Bukhari]. All the Sahaba wished for this privilege and when morning came the Prophet PBUH Asked for Ali then the Sahaba said “He complains of his eyes O prophet” Then Mohammad PBUH told them to bring Ali and when Ali Came the Prophet PBUH Spat in his eye and made a dua for him and Ali was cured immediately by Allah’s permission Then he gave him the Banner, Ali Said “O Prophet, I fight them until they Become like us” Then the prophet PBUh told him to fight them and call them to islam and allah granted victory by his hands. [Bukhari]
أنفذ على رسلك، حتى تنزل بساحتهم، ثم ادعهم إلى الإسلام، وأخبرهم بما يجب عليهم من حق الله فيه، فوالله لأن يهدي الله بك رجلاً واحدًا خير لك من أن يكون لك حمر النعم
The Prophet PBUh also included Ali RAA(And his family) in the verse known as “Ayatul Tatheer” [33:33] in a Sahih Hadith Narrated by Aisha RAA in Sahih Bukhari thus showing that Ali was from the household of Mohammad PBUH.
He was also known for his vast knowledge and wisdom so much that when Aisha was sometimes asked about matters she would say “Ask Ali” and so did Umar RAA.
Ali RAA used to say: “Ask Me for By God No matter what you ask I will answer, Ask about the Book of Allah for I Know when each verse was revealed, in day or at night, in a mountain or in a valley”.
In their Caliphate, Abu Bakr and Umar RAA used to like Ali RAA for his virtue and his merits and Umar RAA had nominated Ali RAA to be amongst the six to whom the Caliphate should go to by Shura and when Uthman RAA passed away Ali RAA was quickly given Baya’ah and elected as Caliph.
When he received the Caliphate Ali RAA shifted the position of the Caliphate to Iraq where he used to go down in the Souks (Markets) with his Stick and remind the people to remain honest and sincere in devotion to Allah and to not cheat on others in trade.
He also used to distribute the money whenever he visited BaytulMal And before he died he ordered that all the money in BaytulMal be given away to the Muslims then they must dust it so that he can pray inside it So that it would be a witness for him on the day of judgment.
It was recorded that once a two women came to him, one was an Arab and the other a non-Arab, so he asked that they be both given food and 40 dirhams then the Arab woman complained that she should be given more because she’s Arab, Ali RAA then told her “I had opened the book of Allah and found no difference between the children of Ismail and those of Isaac”.
At the end of his Caliphate the Fitnah had grew bigger and more dangerous so three of the young Khawarij went on a journey to kill those whom they thought were the reason behind the Fitnah. The Suspects were Ali RAA, Muawiyah RAA and Amr bin al Asi RAA… two men had failed but one had succeeded… The Famous Fasiq Abdul Rahman Ibn Muljam waited in ambush for Ali RAA when he was on his way for the Fajr prayer and was able to strike a blow to the head which led to the death of the Caliph on the 40th year of hijrah when he was 65 years of age.
Ali Ibn Abi Talib RAA was buried in Kufah Iraq after leading the muslims for 4 years and 8 months and he had Narrated more than 400 Hadiths from the prophet so peace be upon the people of the household.
