sister and welcome to the forum!

I'm sure some of the senior members and moderators have the answers you're looking for. It's probably best to stick to authenticated sources and trustworthy websites when you're a revert - take it from a revert =) We tend to lack the solid foundations of information which born-and-bred Muslims have, so we're more vulnerable to absorbing little bits of mis-information by accident. At least, I am, which is why I like SunniForum so much - almost everybody provides authenticated sources for their answers.

Some of the members here are actual scholars, and are far more qualified to answer your question than a revert like me. SF had some server glitches this morning, but hopefully now that it's up and running again, you'll get some answers soon.

Divine help means to have enough strength to do good deeds, when one intends to do.

Alikum salaam wr wb sister and wellcome to Sunniforum

If i remember correctly sister, shaykh Hamza Yusuf explained the length of the Day of Judgement by saying that what is meant by in one Quranic verse that the day of judgement is one thousand years in length and in another ayah that it is fifty thousand years in length is that it is something that us humans cannot understand so we really cannot understand as to how long the day of judgement is

And regarding all animals taking revenge on humans that hurt them, this may be so but the hadiths I've come across regarding such an issue is that there wil be a cat in hell-fire that will continue to? torment a man in there that had tied up the cat while it was on earth and not fed it or not let it loose to feed on the beasts of the earth, also I heard that animals will take revenge on one another, such as if a bigger cow wrongfully headbutted a smaller one than the smaller one will be made bigger then it on the day of judgemernt and it will head but the cow that had done wrong to it and thus equalise up like this and after that Allah will turn all animals to dust...

It could be that various animals take revenge on their tormentors and wrongdoers and also it could be that many people could just be punished by ALlah for their cruelty and injustice to animals, if He has not forgiven them that is

    hope this helps

    Salaam

ps: the 'prolonged' length on the Day of judgement will be relative to the believers and desbelievers:

He directs the command from the heaven to the earth, for the duration of this world, then it ascends, then the command and the direction [thereof] returns, to Him in a day whose measure is a thousand years by your reckoning, in this world. In sūrat sa’ala, [An asker] asked [the measure is said to be]: ‘fifty thousand years’ [Q. 70:4] — and this [day] is the Day of Resurrection, [reckoned so] because of the severity of its terrors for the disbeliever. As for the believer, however, for him it will be easier than performing any one of [his] obligatory prayers in this world — as is stated in hadīth.

As its been mentioned, when the text mention 70,000 years, or 50,000 years, the ulama interpret this to mean an extended length of time which the human doesn't normally comprehend.

As for animals taking out punishment on those who harm them, one should have authentic sound source before one accepts such a statement into Aqidah. Allah knows best.

But on the Day of Judgement, one's deeds will be weighed, and those who have something against you will take from your good deeds. May Allah forbid that all your good deeds are taken from those who have something against you.

In fact, it is superior to understand that one's good deeds expiate one from one's bad deeds, ie. one to one ratio. Thus, one can protect oneself from bad deeds by repenting and increasing good deeds.

These are definitive as proven by Quran and authentic ahadith and believed by Ahlil Sunnah wa Jamaah.

    And Allah knows best.

Shaykh hamza also gave this interesting explanation:

The arabs were an illiterate people during the time of the prophet [saw]; there is a hadith in which it says that when a person of that time once heard the price of a certain commodity being more than a thousand riyals, he said "is there a number more than a thousand"?

The Arabic tale of a thousand and one nights, means, "a countless number of nights", for the number 'thousand' denoted an 'utmost' number of nights and thus adding one at the end of that means, the nights carry on without a specific ending.

Allah revealed the Quran in the Arabic language which the Arabs would be able to understand during the time when it was revealed; so references to a 'thousand days' and 'fifty thousand days' is a reference to a number that is 'countless', so hence Allah is saying that a Day with Allah is long as a day which we cannot comprehend, or it is a day which the length goes on for a period which is beyond human comprehension in terms of the way we count on earth with the numbers.

Asalaamu Alaikum Wr Wb, the length of the day of judgement aswell as the end of the world are one of many things that only Allah knows best of. There is no point speculating. We cannot comprehend the hereafter just like we cannot comprehend what it will be like to be elderly when were young. We should therefore do our best to prepare for this day and do as many good deeds as possible and please Allah as much as we can.

I have taken the liberty to paste some very beneficial links to some threads. Please feel free to copy, print and forward as much as you can so that others may benefit to. Jazakallah khayran
