difference between witr salah and maghrib salah

asslam alaikum-

i would like to share somehting which i could nto find easily for some reason-

recently i became very interested in islam-
i was taught how to read salah by my mother-

after doing my own research i found that the witr salah(witr means odd) and the 3 rakat of maghrib salah are different not just becuase you read your dua- but also because you do not in the 2nd rakat sit and bear witness of Allahswt and his messanger where as in maghribs 2nd rakat you do-

another thing is that fter goin in to ruku in the 2rd rakat and reading ''samiallah huliman hamida rabana wala kal hamd'' you raise your hands just below your ears and do your dua--

the current dua i know is ''rabbana atina fid duniya hasanatauw wa fil akhirti hasanatuw wa kinathabunar''

please can anyone state some more duas ? along with their meanings? i know people recite dua qunoot but other than this any more duas please?

Sister, first of all, it's good to know that you have gained more interest in learning about Islam. The issue and condition of witr salaah is different among different schools of Ahlus Sunnah. To be more abstract, there's a difference among the Sunni Hanafi/Malikis and Sunni Shafii/Hanbalis.

So you need to ask your mother, what school of Ahlus sunnah you belong to. If you can list your parents background, then insha'Allah we'll be able to help you further insha'Allah

i dont know which school she follows but she is a brelvi and i have taken a interest in the hanibali school of thought- i also noticed that many users are hanafis- i dont understand what these schools are for to be honest- i mean if we stick to the quran and sunnah and refer to hadeeth for guidance we cant go wrong-

the Sahabah interpreted same verses of Quran or same acts of Rasulullah differently and we as followers, following their interpretations. Some of the Sahabah might interpreted that one practice of Rasulullah was only specific at that time and others might think that it should be applied as a general statement. These interpretations were followed and learned by different group of people and they stick with these and eventually madhhab was formed. This means that these schools are actually following Quran and Sunnah and have ahadith to back their claims.

the way you describe your understanding of witr salah is almost similar to Shafi'i school, where you can do 3 raka'ah of salah without first tashahhud sitting.
