Tahajjud prayer

Salaam,

Could anyone really break down into step-by-steps of how to read Tahajjud prayer please? (the actual prayer that is, i.e. what surahs etc. if someone could give me an example of how they read thajjud prayer, that would be perfect)

i am very confused at this moment in time. I have heard that you ask for whatever it is you want during sudjood and you have to say something special (cant remember what), but some say it is after the salah you ask, can anyone clarify this?

Seeing that there is no reply as yet, i'll just share with you what I know of the tahajjud, but you should wait for a more definitive answer to your question

The tahajud is just like a normal nafl [optional] prayer but the only difference is that it is prayed in the middle of the night [around 2-3 in the morning] or in the early hours before dawn...

there are some specific surahs that can be read in tahajjud, but one dont have to read them surahs and can read any he pleases with the usual style of making the surah of the second rakaah shorter than that of the first; tahajjud is prayed in two rakaahs of nafl salaah each; four rakaahs [in one salaah] might be allowed but this needs verification...

As far as I know, tahajjud is prayed to please ALlah [swt] and not for wanting anything specifically from ALlah; ofcourse we can request things of ALlah in our dua's, just like we can ask of ALlah any other time during any other dua's... [I thnik some madhabs allow supplications to ALlah in sujood during salaah..., but not sure wether this is allowed in Hanafi madhab]

tahajjud is a great blessing from ALlah; it is a means of drawing ever close to ALlah and inshALlah the reward for it is immense, and ofcourse dua's are more likely to be accepted in tahajjud then in nafl prayers during the day... and those who ALlah has blessed by giving them the ability to offer it are truly blessed indeed!

I think everything Abu-Abdullah said is good advice, but one more thing is i think Rasoolullahh (sallallahualaihiwasallam) used to read 8 rak'ahs of tahajjud ( in twos), maybe sum1 can verify. And after youve completed the salaah, read Ayahs 190 to 194 of Surah Aal Imran (that is also sunnah) and then make dua, with strong hope and trust in Allah that it will be accepted. Also do it in a way that others dont know, if possible, as this will help youre sincerity.

I think in nafl salaah it is allowed to make dua in sujood during salaah in the Hanafi madhhab, as long as it is in Arabic.

Should these ayaat be read after the witr prayer and then du`aa be made? Also, can the source for this amal be provided, whether it be from a book of a scholar or the actual hadith itself (just need it for my personal reference).
