Default Working for defence/intelligence based government organisations?

Just curious about the stance on this. I'm talking in reference to primarily departments centered around intelligence/defence in the UK e.g. MOD, MI5 etc. I've always looked at it as a conflict of interest, and thus haram... but someone else may think otherwise?

    Haram or not...

After knowing what these organisations are doing to Muslims; does your conscious allow you to work for them?

What about situations where one is working for such organisations through a 3rd party - e.g. a consultancy firm - where one may not have as much leverage on what they work on and what they don't work on.

Technically all sorts of scenarios can be played out to recieve a "Non Haram" Fatwa. Would you be satisfied with it and start your work with such an organisation? Would your heart be at peace?

If you are in financial difficulty and have no other alternative, that may be a different issue altogether as there may be some leeway in temporarily seeking an income to look after your family's needs.

My concern isn't starting work with a particular organisation... my concern is finding yourself in such a scenario after joining an organisation to work in one particluar area... and over time (years) finding yourself in another area due to market trends, company needs etc etc.

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

It is really simple; Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is Ar-Razzaaq, the sole provider of rizq.

You choose to leave something (e.g. give up a haram job) for the sake of Allah and He azza wa jallah will give you something better. Look up the related ahadith on this matter.
