Default Hungry in America, but the economy is getting better?

    Sahih Bukhari

Narrated Abu Musa: The Prophet said, "Free the captives, feed the hungry and pay a visit to the sick." (Book #52, Hadith #282)

Narrated Abu Huraira: A man came to the Prophet. The Prophet sent a messenger to his wives (to bring something for that man to eat) but they said that they had nothing except water. Then Allah's Apostle said, "Who will take this (person) or entertain him as a guest?" An Ansar man said, "I." So he took him to his wife and said to her, "Entertain generously the guest of Allah's Apostle " She said, "We have got nothing except the meals of my children." He said, "Prepare your meal, light your lamp and let your children sleep if they ask for supper." So she prepared her meal, lighted her lamp and made her children sleep, and then stood up pretending to mend her lamp, but she put it off. Then both of them pretended to be eating, but they really went to bed hungry. In the morning the Ansari went to Allah's Apostle who said, "Tonight Allah laughed or wondered at your action." Then Allah revealed: "But give them (emigrants) preference over themselves even though they were in need of that And whosoever is saved from the covetousness Such are they who will be successful." (59.9) (Book #58, Hadith #142)

In a land as rich, the injustice and inequalities are monstrous, let us remember the example of the companions(may Allah be pleased with them) and help those in need where ever they may be. May Allah accept our good deeds. Ameen!

Hunger in America jumps ‘unprecedented’ 46 percent

70 percent of emergency food centers face threats to their survival

According to a study from the nation's largest food bank operator, the number of Americans in need of food aid has jumped 46 percent in three years, including a 50 percent jump in the number of children needing food assistance, and a 64 percent increase in hunger in senior citizens' homes.

The study, Hunger in America 2010, found that 37 million people, or roughly one in eight US residents, received food aid in 2009. That's a 46 percent jump from a similar survey carried out in 2006.

To be quite honest, I think one of the main reasons why there are hungry Americans is due to the poor decisions on the part of government food distributors (ie food stamps). There's all these silly food stamps for items like cupcakes and kool aid. They need to just give poor people rice, beans, and vitamin packs. If they did that, they could easily feed everyone in this country. Rice and beans are crazy cheap, but nobody wants to live off of just rice and beans...they want candy and other useless garbage! And rice and beans aren't bad; mix some refried beans with some Spanish rice...a little bit of hot sauce and lime...boom! Meal.
