Imam Al mahdi, Black banners, Haarith and mansoor.

I have come across an article about mahdi and i have a few queries.

A man by the name of Haarith bin Harrath will emerge from beyond the Euphrates river, and before him will be another by the name of Mansoor. The former (i.e. Haarith) will be preparing the minds of Muslims to accept Imam Mahdi when he comes. He will perform the same task for Imam Mahdi, which the Quraish performed for Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam in Madina before Hijrat. Mansoor will aid him in this direction. It is wajib upon every Muslim to help this Haarith, or to respond to his call.

Does this mean that khalifat will be established before imaam al mahdi appears?

The Abdaals and pious leaders will all be on the lookout for Imam Mahdi, knowing that only he could bring final succour to the failing Ummat. There will be a fight in Makka between three people, each one being the son of a khaleefa, over leadership of the Muslims. But none of them will gain the khilafat. This fight will take place in the month of Zhul-Qa’dah, and even in Mina during Hajj, there will be continuation of hostilities. All this will occur in the same year as Imam Mahdi’s election.

Could this possibly mean muslims from different sects fighting to claim leadership?
Also Could the islamic state established by mansoor possibly be in saudi arabia?

An army will come from the East towards Arabia. The East here refers to Khurasan, i.e. northeastern Iran, which includes the borders of Russia and Afghanistan. They will pave the way for the establishment of Imam Mahdi’s kingdom. This army will carry black banners. Nothing shall halt their onward march, and eventually they will plant their flag on the soils of Baitul-Maqdis (Jerusalem). (This is a clear sign that Al-Quds will eventually be liberated and conquered by the forces of Islam.)

This army will seek the leadership of Arabia. The current leader will refuse to hand over the khilafat.

A tremendously fierce battle will ensue, the likes of which Muslims had never yet experienced. The army from Khurasan will be victorious and will eventually assume the leadership

Many have stated that the black banners will be from a warrior nation and possibly from afghanistan. Could it be the pashtuns or mujahiden of taliban?

It is clear that when they travel to arabia muslims from other sects will try to defeat them for leadership but the black banners will be victorious.

It is stated imam al mahdi will be arab and born of medina. He will be the general or part of the black banners army. So it could mean he travels to khurasaan and joins them somehow. He will be an imaam with military expertise.

Does anyone know of any Hadith of Rasulullah which proves this (the above statement) or that he will be an Arab, since there are many non -Arab Sayyids.

And he also narrated from 'Ali ibn Abi Talib [radhiyallahu 'anhu] that he said:
"The Mahdi will be born in al-Madinah, from the household of the Prophet [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam].

The Prophet (saas) said: “… a man [Hazrat Mahdi (as)] of the people of Madina (a large city) will come forth to Mecca. Some of the people of Mecca will come to him, bring him out against his will and swear allegiance to him between the Corner and the Maqam. … (Sunan Abu Dawud)

In the hadith cited above, our Prophet (saas) says that Hazrat Mahdi (as) will come from Medina, whereas in another hadith he says that Hazrat Mahdi (as) “will come from the village of Land.”


And Abu Nu'aym, and Abu Bakr al-Muqri' in his Mu'jam, narrated from Ibn 'Amr [radhiyallahu
'anhuma] that he said: "The Prophet [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam] said:
"The Mahdi will come from a village called Kur'ah."


The word Medina is used in a metaphorical sense in the hadith handed down from our Prophet (saas). In other words, our Prophet (saas) uses the word Medina to mean very different things. There are many large cities or “Medinas” in the Islamic world. For that reason, one can only tell in what sense the word Medina is being used by looking at other accounts on the subject.

It is narrated from Ibn Amr that: Our Prophet (saas) said: O, people! There are six things without which Doomsday will not happen, (the sixth) is the capture of Medina .

-He was asked: Which Medina
-He replied: Constantinople.
(*) This is the spiritual capture of Constantinople by Hazrat Mahdi (as).

Imam al Mahdi will be among black banners comming from khurasan.

1. And Ibn Abi Shaybah, Nu'aym ibn Hammad in al-Fitan, Ibn Majah and Abu Nu'aym narrated from
Ibn Mas'ud [radhiyallahu 'anhu] that he said:
"Once we were with the Messenger of Allah [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam], when a group of youths from
Banu Hashim approached. When the Prophet [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam] saw them, his eyes filled with
tears and his colour changed.
He [i.e. Ibn Mas'ud] said: "I said: "We see in your face something that worries us." So he said:
"We, the Ahl al-Bayt, are a people for whom Allah has chosen the hereafter over this world. And my
household after me will face trials, banishment and pursuit, until a people from the east come with black
banners, and they will ask for what is due, but not be given it. So they will fight and be victorious, and be
given what they asked for. But they will not accept it from them until they hand it over to a man from my
household, who will fill it [i.e. the earth] with equity, as they had filled it with tyranny. So whoever among
you reaches that time, then let him go to them, even if he must crawl over ice, for he is the Mahdi."

2. And Ibn Majah, al-Hakim and Abu Nu'aym narrated from Thawban [radhiyallahu 'anhu] that he said:
"The Messenger of Allah [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam]:
"Three will fight where your treasure is, each one the son of a khalifah. But it will not go to a single one of
them. Then, the black banners will come out of the east and kill you as no people have ever been killed.
Then, the khilafah of Allah, the Mahdi, will come, so when you hear of him then go to him and give the
bay'ah to him, even if you must crawl over ice. For he is Allah's khalifah, the Mahdi."

3.And Ahmad, Nu'aym ibn Hammad, al-Hakim and Abu Nu'aym narrated from Thawban [radhiyallahu
'anhu] that he said: "The Messenger of Allah [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam] said:
"When you see the black banners have come forward from Khurasan, then go to them even if you have to
crawl over ice, for among them is Allah's khalifah, the Mahdi."

4. And al-Hasan ibn Sufyan and Abu Nu'aym narrated from Thawban [radhiyallahu 'anhu] that he said:
"The Messenger of Allah [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam] said:
"The black banners will come from the east, with hearts like iron bars. So whoever hears of them, let him
go to them and give them bay'ah, even if he must crawl over ice."

Note: None of them mentions Banu Hashim or Shu'ayb ibn Salih who will lead the black banners comming forward from khurasan.

These are the hadiths where Banu Hashim and Shu'ayb ibn Salih are mentioned. None of them contains the statement "even if he must crawl over ice, for he is the Mahdi." or among them is the al Mahdi.

5. Nu'aym ibn Hammad narrated from Abu Hurayrah [radhiyallahu 'anhu]
that he said: "The Messenger of Allah [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam] said:
"Black banners will come out of Khurasan, and nothing will stop them, until they are raised in Ayliya' [i.e. Bayt al-Maqdis]."

Ibn Kathir said: "These banners are not those of Abu Muslim al-Khurasani who came and overthrew the
state of Banu Umayyah in the year 132. Rather, they are other banners that will come in the future,
accompanied by the Mahdi."


6. And Nu'aym narrated from Abu Ja'far that he said:
"A youth from Banu Hashim will come, with a mole on his right hand, from Khurasan with black banners. Before him will be Shu'ayb ibn Salih, who will fight the companions of the Sufyani and defeat them."


7. And he also narrated from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib that he said: "The Messenger of Allah [sallallahu
'alayhi wa-sallam] said:"Out of the east will come black banners belonging to Banul-'Abbas, then they will remain as long as Allah wills, then small black banners will come out against a man from the descendents of Abu Sufyan, and his companions, from the east. They will give their obedience to the Mahdi."


Note: In the past there have been black banners comming forward from the east belonging to banul- 'Abbas.



8. And he also narrated from 'Ali [radhiyallahu 'anhu] that he said:
"Black banners will come out, fighting the Sufyani, among them a youth from Banu Hashim, with a mole on his left shoulder. At the head of his army will be a man from Banu Tamim called Shu'ayb ibn Salih, who will defeat his [i.e. the Sufyani's] companions."

Imam al Mahdi is not among the banners of Shu'ayb ibn Salih and Banu Hashim. He appears in Mekkah with the banner Uqab of the prophet Mohammad saws. Hadith 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 ecludes clear he is among the banners of Shu'ayb ibn Salih or Banu Hashim.

9. And he also narrated from 'Ali ibn Abi Talib [radhiyallahu 'anhu] that he said:
"When the cavalry of the Sufyani comes to al-Kufah, he will send them in pursuit of the people of Khurasan. The people of Khurasan will come out, looking for the Mahdi. Then he and the Hashimi will meet with a group of people with black banners, at their head Shu'ayb ibn Salih. Then he and the companions of the Sufyani will meet in battle at the gate of Istakhar, and a terrible battle will be fought between them. The black banners will be victorious, and the cavalry of the Sufyani will flee. When that happens, the people will wish for the Mahdi and look for him."

10. And Nu'aym ibn Hammad narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah that he said:
"A black banner will come, belonging to Banul-'Abbas. Then, from Khurasan will come another one, also black. Their turbans will be black and their garments white. At the head of their army will be a man called Shu'ayb ibn Salih ibn Shu'ayb, from Tamim. They will defeat the companions of the Sufyani until he [i.e. Shu'ayb ibn Salih] settles in Bayt al-Maqdis, preparing the way for the Mahdi's rule. Three hundred men from ash-Sham will help him. Between his coming and the handing over of the rule to the Mahdi will be seventy months."

11. And he also narrated from Abu Ja'far that he said:
"The black banners that come out from Khurasan will settle at al-Kufah. When the Mahdi appears in Makkah, they will send the bay'ah to him."

The banner Uqab, the color, shape, and stitching of which are described in the hadiths of our Prophet (saas), is today housed in the Sacred Relics Department at Topkapi Palace Istanbul.

12. And he also narrated from Abu Ja'far that he said:
"Then the Mahdi will appear in Makkah at the 'Isha' prayer, carrying with him the banner of the Messenger of Allah [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam], his cloak and his sword, and with clear signs, light, and proofs. When he has prayed 'Isha', he will call out at the top of his voice, saying:

"I remind you of Allah, O people, and of your standing in front of your Lord. For He has made clear the
evidence, sent the Prophets, revealed the Book, and commanded you not to associate anything with Him, to
observe obedience to Him and to His Messenger [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam], to revive that which the
Qur'an revived and to abolish that which it abolished, and to be helpers upon right guidance and mutual
advisors to piety. For the end of this world has drawn near, and it has begun to announce its farewell. So I
call you to Allah and to His Messenger, to act upon His Book, to abolish falsehood, and to revive His
Sunnah."So he will appear among three hundred and thirteen men, the number of the people of Badr, without anyprior appointment, like scattered Autumn clouds gathering together, worshippers at night, lions during the day.

Then Allah will open for the Mahdi the land of al-Hijaz, and he will bring out all who had been imprisoned
from among the Banu Hashim. And the black banners will settle at al-Kufah, sending their bay'ah to theMahdi. The Mahdi will send his troops to the distant lands, putting an end to tyranny and its people. Thelands will be righted by him, and Allah will cause Constantinople to be conquered at his hands."

13. And he also narrated from 'Ali [radhiyallahu 'anhu] that he said:
"When the black banners led by Shu'ayb ibn Salih defeat the Sufyani's cavalry, the people will wish for the Mahdi. So they will look for him, and he will come out from Makkah with the banner of the Prophet [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam] and pray two rak'ahs, after the people had despaired of his coming due to the long trials that they had suffered. So when he finishes his prayer, he will turn around and say: "O people! Trials have heavily afflicted the Ummah of Muhammad [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam], and especially his household. We have been conquered and oppressed."[/spoiler]
Al-Hafidh 'Imad ad-Din ibn Kathir said to 1. hadith: "In this is an indication of the rule of Banul-'Abbas, and in it is a proof that the Mahdi will be after the state of Banul-'Abbas, and he will be from the Ahl al-Bayt, from the descendents of Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah [sallallahu 'alayhi wa-sallam], then from the children of al-Hasan and al-Husayn."

A closer study of historical sources reveals that this view does not take into account the Turks who lived in greater Khurasan both before and after the Arab Conquests of the seventh and eighth centuries A The Muslim Records are substantiated by notices in Byzantine, Syriac and Chinese records which refer to the Ephthalites and other peoples as Turks. The contents of various accounts of these Turks indicate that they were not merely mecenary soldiers, nor the ruling class, but formed an important part of the population of Khurasan and Tansoxania. Hadith 1, 3 and 4 stated al Mahdi is among them, while hadith 2 is more precise "Then, the khilafah of Allah, the Mahdi, will come, so when you hear of him then go to him and give the bay'ah to him, even if you must crawl over ice. For he is Allah's khalifah, the Mahdi."

O you who believe! whoever from among you turns back from his religion, then Allah will bring a people, He shall love them and they shall love Him, lowly before the believers, mighty against the unbelievers, they shall strive hard in Allah's way and shall not fear the censure of any censurer; this is Allah's Face, He gives it to whom He pleases, and Allah is Ample-giving, Knowing. Many Tafsir Aleems one of them Bediüzzaman Said Nursi have declared the 54th Ayath of the Sura the Food refers to the ottomans.The following 2 hadith strengthens this argument.

Narrated Hazrat Abu Huraira (R.A): "When great wars will occur, then Allah subhanahu wata ala will rise an Army from the Non Arabs who will be greater riders and will have better weapons than the Arabs. Allah subhahu wa ta ala will support Deen (Islam) by them"

Narrated from Bishr al-Khath`ami or al-Ghanawi by:
"Verily you shall conquer Constantinople. What a wonderful leader will her leader be, and what a wonderful army will that army be!"

Some people will appear from the East and prepare the way for Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh). Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) will be the ruler among them. (Ibn Majah, Kitabul Fitan: 35 (4088)

Some people will come from the East and prepare the sultanate of Hazrat Mahdi (as). (Ibn Hajar al-Haythami, Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar fi `Alamat al-Mahdi al-Muntadhar , p. 21)

A community will come from the East and assist the sultanate of Hazrat Mahdi (as). (Al-Muttaqi al-Hindi, Al-Burhan fi Alamat al-Mahdi Akhir az-Zaman, p. 60)

Result: Imam al Mahdi is among turks. The turks have their origins in the black banners of Abu Muslim Khurasani. The prophet mentioned them one after the other (Hadith 7 and 10) with the banners Shu'ayb ibn Salih or Banu Hashim. These banners do not exist more, therefor he appears alone with the banner Uqab which is kept in Istanbul.
