    Default Classical Music

    Salams

What is the general opinion of the permissiblity of classical music. I am confused as i have seen some brothers, who are pious mashallah, saying it is ok to listen to some forms of music like classical etc. Please can some clairify the position (from a non-Wahhabi/Salafi point of view).

    jazakallah khairan

from my personal experience...music causes a change in my heart. what it feels like is my dhikr of allah coming out and something else going in, stirring all my desires/emotions. that is what music is meant to do, to stir a persons desires and emotion, ortherwise it wouldny be music, rather noise. When the dhikr of Allah leaves a persons heart, it leaves the door wide open for the shaitan to come in. so its not the music in itself that may be bad(in terms of language) but the effects of it are dangerous, especially since many people od not realize what music does. Trust me brother(theres many hadiths to prohibit musical instruments) listening to music will surely take you away from Allah and eventually give shaitan reign over your heart.

Now songs, I understand have some bad effects, but how does music for example, on a tv program or a news channel, lead to me opening the door to shaitan in my heart?

I dont wish to discuss the permissibility or impermissibility of music, rather I wanted to make some observations.

When give a small window of permission, its seems Man masses and crowds that window climbing in and out, and by frenzy and calculated percision, the knock out the frame of that window to make a door. And then when the mass crowds the door, they decide to tear out the entire door to make a large hole in the wall and the frenzy mass of people crowd even that large hole. But as the noise and frenzy increase, the building structure weakens and falls, crushing the mass below.
    Then people say: what happened?

What is halal and what is haram is not just for oneself as one feels like it
    - its for all mankind imaginable until the end of this life. Can you imagine? Billions of people following that one ruling? And what man will choose to stand before Allah (SWT) with all of these billions of people following him and claim what is halal or haram without Allah and His Messenger (saw)?

Very dangerous for the common man to determine what is halal and haram. And the alim who bases halal and haram without strength of ilm, how dangerous?

    And Allah knows best.
Abu Shamah had narrated, via the Sanad of Abi Ziyad bin Hudayr, saying:

"Omar said to me: Do you know what destroys Islam? I said, No! He said: A mistake made by a scholar, the argument of a hypocrite in writing and the ruling of leaders who wish for people to stray".
