Promises in Dreams

I had a very disturbing dream the other day in which I saw a loved one depart. and in my dream i was crying and at the same time i said I will £100 for him to return or if i can find a way to find him (i do this alot in real life aswell ). After that in my dream i was all of a sudden in a forest walking intoa lake where there were houses underwater and i was able to 'rescue' the person in question. I have very odd and scary dreams time all the which i dont mind cus they dont bother me because i know scary dreams are from the Shaytan and i know what to do in the event of an unpleasant dream.

What i would like to know is would i have to fulfiill the dream promise. is that regarded as an intention??

Awww sis =) All I can say with any confidence is that we are not supposed to act on our dreams. This is one reason that a lot of wise people caution against amateur interpretation etc. As you said, the dream could have been from the Shaitaan, or it could have been of divine origin, or it could simply have been a product of your subconscious. If it was a divine dream, and if you can get expert interpretation for it (from your Shaykh, for example), I doubt that the true meaning would be anything like a clear specific instruction. Dreams can be helpful by opening our eyes to different perspectives, making us think, etc.

Once I dreamt that I was standing on the edge of a pit of fire. I was holding my baby, who was then very young in real life. Next to me was a descendant of our beloved Prophet . I heard a booming voice ordering me to choose: I had to throw/ push one of them into the fire.

I woke up sweating, got out of bed trembling, and left the bedroom to go and think. I realized later that the most important thing this dream taught me was that I was terrified by the choice I was asked to make - I did not make one choice or another immediately in the dream - I woke up in horror at the "impossibility" of the choice.

See what I mean? Even though I received a clear order in my dream, it didn't (inshaAllah!!) mean I should get up the next day and go chuck either my baby or the descendant of our Prophet into a pit of fire. Only Allah knows the true meaning, but it helped me realize that my heart was full of conflict.

Ask yourself if this dream taught you anything, or made you think about yourself/ your life in a new way. If it just made you feel bad - as you said, you know what to do
