    Default Prophethood from birth?

    Salaam Aleikum

Are al prophets , prophets from birth? meaning they knew themselves from birth that they were prophets, or is this something they get told later on in life by revelation?

Such as i believe Muhammad (saw) was said to spread islam at the age of 40 (correct me if im wrong). Does that mean he was a normal person before not knowing he was a prophet before this?

Also if they knew they were prophets from brith, why do they get the revelation later in life?
Such as prophet musa (as) on the mountain to deliver his people from egypt?

    Shukran

i have heard of a hadith of the prophet which confirms that he (SAW) knew he (SAW) was a prophet before birth. its only a rough translation mind, but i think its something along the lines of where the prophet (SAW) said he knew of his prophethood when Adam (AS) was between water and clay.

i know that revelation was sent down to many of the prophets once they had reached the age of maturity (which is 40 years of age). the examples of hazrat Musa (AS) and our own prophet Muhammed (SAW) are examples of this.

however i think i am right in saying that some prophets were prophets from an earlier age. the most prominent example i can think of is the example of Ibrahim (AS), who called people to monotheism from an early age. Also when the pagan worshippers of his (AS) village found their idols smashed they asked for the youth called Ibrahim (AS) to come forward as they had heard him (AS) speaking out against the idols. The fact the idol worshippers mentioned that he was a youth shows that Ibrahim (AS) was aware of the existence of God before revelation).

if there has been any error in my post i apologise and Allah Knows best.

Visit the link above you (go to page 2), this particular version is baseless, so it can't serve as a proof that Rasulallah (saw) had premordial prophethood (and this implies not from birth but from before existence).
