How to type Arabic on a microsoft word- help please.

This might seem like really obvious questions to some, but I am a dunce when it come to anything out of my comfort zone when it comes to computers so please would someone take the time to answer the following questions:

1. How do I type Arabic on microsoft word? Do I need the whole microsoft word program in Arabic or can I just download some free fonts from somewhere?
(I have recently started typing out my study notes on my laptop and have no idea how to add Arabic words, hadeeth ayahs etc unless I am copying and pasting.)

2. And this could be the number one dumb question, but if I have some microsoft word documents, how do I convert them to pdf ? Do I need to purchase a program for that or is there a free program that will do the job?

PDF Creator is needed to convert any file to pdf. It is free to install and easy to use.

Assalamu alaykum.

First you should do the right thing and get OpenOffice from OpenOffice.org, which is insha Allah way better than MS Office. (Free in money and freedom) With OpenOffice you can directly save/export your documents as PDF, no need for any external programs.

You have several choices:

• Use Online Arabic Keyboard and copy and paste into your document.
• Get an Arabic keyboard and switch language/keyboardmap to Arabic in your OS/application for the time you need to type in Arabic.
• Get Arabic keyboard stickers to transform your Englisch Keyboard into an Englisch-Arabic multikeyboard and switch language/keyboardmap to Arabic in your OS/application for the time you need to type in Arabic.

To type comfortably I advise you to buy latkey arabic stickers. As for tafsir hadeeth ...., the best is to download al-Maktabah as-Shamilah.

This is what you need to do:

1) Add Arabic to your Windows (not Office) and here are the instructions:

You will need your Windows CD in order to do this.

2) Reboot your computer

3) Your computer will now give you the ability to type in Arabic or English

Now you can:

a) Either learn all the keys in Arabic

b) Install an Urdu Phonetic Keyboard

And this will give a phonetic Arabic Keyboard i.e. to type "Kaaf" just press "K"

4) If you have Office 2007 then the following Microsoft utility provide you with the abiility to directly save to PDF

a) Download

b) Install

c) In the save document box, select "Save as PDF"...job done!

If don't have Office 2007 then look at what Saad is saying.

Yesterday I typed a long message on how to enable Arabic on Windows for typing via Ms Word, but it got lost because of SF server error. I've experienced this problem on SF several times now, and it broke my courage typing long messages. Instead, hoping your sincere dua I have just compiled a whole booklet explaining Arabic Typesetting and fonts in step-by-step.

How to black out or white out human pictures using Microsoft Picture Manager?

You can right-click the picture in Windows Photo Viewer and edit to open it in MS Paint or open the file with MS Paint then black out/white out as you wish.
