    Salaam

I pray the 4 rakats of zohar normally, meaning after ive read the "athaheeyat..." i get up and read "Fatiah and surah in the last 2 rakats,

What i mean was somone told me that the ASR and ISHA 4 sunats need to be read in 2 rakats at a time but together in 4, if that makes any sense. Hope you can clarify,

    Jazakallah

You pray other 4 rakah sunnah of asr and isha in same way like you do for zohar.

    Assalamu alaikum,

The brother has asked a legitimate question. The 4 raka't of Asr being sunnate ghayr muakkadah has some easier rules.

    1. For sunnate muakkada (4 rakat of zuhr and 4 + 4 rakat of jumua') - in the first sitting - after attahiyyat, if someone reads further till "Allahumma salli ala Muhammad" then sajdah-e- sahw is wajib. So one needs to end at the end of attahiyyat and get up. Reading any further (till "Muhammad" in the durood) will cause sajdah-e-sahw to be wajib.

    2. However in sunnate ghayr muakkadah making this mistake does not make sajdah-e-sahw wajib. But it does not mean one must read durood and dua as well. It is permitted from what I understand and not compulsory. I don't know if it is sunnah or not.

4 rakat before Isha has the same ruling but I think they are nafl and not sunnate ghayr mukkadah. It has the status of mustahab.

    Assalamu alaykum.

Where did you get told about doing the 'Asr and 'Isha ghayr-mu'akkadah sunnah salaah like this?

I was told to do so in my local Turkish masjid, that for 'Asr and 'Isha ghayr-mu'akkadah sunnah salaah I should do like that:

First two rakaat as usual, then on the first sitting recite Tashahud, Allahumma salli, Allahumma barik, then get up, read subhanaka, a'udhubillahiminashshaytanirrajeem, Basmala, al-Fatiha, second surah, and the rest as usual again.

I do not know whether this is correct and I also do not know why they say to do it like that. If someone could show me proofs/fatwa for it I would be thankful.

    And Allah ta'ala knows best.

EDIT: DO NOT TAKE MY POST AS FATWA, IT IS JUST A DESCRIPTION OF WHAT I WAS TOLD TO DO BY A TURKISH BROTHER.

    Assalamu aliakum,

Yes you can do it like this. But the Indian subcontinent people learn to pray it just like 4 rakat sunnah of zuhr. Now I know that the way you described it can be done as well for ghayr muakkadah - what I am not sure is what is the preferred way. It's possible that your way is preferred because all the 4 rakat ghayr muakkadas are in reality two units of 2 rakats.

I have learnt this too. I pray my sunnah before isha and asr as you have described.
