Default Arabic Typesetting in Windows XP, writing Arabic peoms and beautiful fonts - pdf.

    1. How to enable your Windows to type in Arabic?
    2. How to type with tashkeel?
    3. What about Arabic fonts?
    4. How can I insert ayahs of Qur'an inside Word document?

These are frequently asked questions by many students of Qur'an.

Because there was no easy and satisfactory guide online (at least I never found one), I wanted to produce a booklet on these issues explaining technical installations and tricks as easy as possible to the best of my ability.

Your sincere dua for me would be very kind of you.

    So here it is:

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Ps. Typing Qur'an in Word appropriately, may be explained if there is any demand from SF community.

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

Jazak Allahu khayran brother, very helpful insha Allah.

For those who want to do it the really professional way, use XeTeX:

    What’s wrong with MS Word?

Word (or the freely available equivalent OpenOffice) is OK for documents with a small number of pages, although even then the results are suboptimal. With larger documents it’s definitely better to switch to something more suited to professional typesetting. TeX and friends are one solution.

@ Moderators, please make this thread sticky in Arabic subforum.

PS: *TeX is probably the de facto standard for professional typesetting in books, newspapers, etc..

TeX is ideal for Left-to-Right type languages and especially for English. For Arabic, however, as of today TeX is rather a painful, unpleasant and laborious task to carry out. There was some attempts (such as alQalam) to produce calligraphically beautiful and native Arabic TeX packages, but they couldn't accomplish due to insufficient funds and labor.

InshAllah, hopefully one day that area will be tackled appropriately too.

Today I realized that google translate added a "phonetic" typing option. Basically it is typing in Latin words but the outcome is in Arabic as it sounds from Latin wording. Sometimes this tool may come in handy.

There are two symbol-like Arabic ligatures provided by Arial Unicode MS that are widely recognized over the net as well as on Windows XP and Office 2000 + . These symbols are:

    1. ﷺ SallallAhu Alayhu wa Sallam
    2. ﷻ Jalla Jalaluhu

In Ms Office you simply type fdfa then Alt-x (that’s press and hold Alt key, then press x) to get ﷺ and fdfb Alt-x to get ﷻ.

In forums, to enter these characters, simply write as
    PHP Code:
    ﷺ
    for ﷺ and
    PHP Code:
    ﷻ
    for ﷻ.

The advantage is that, you don’t have to know how to type Arabic to get these blessed expressions, nor do you need to use images all the time.
