I didn't read the long debate
But what's the problem with Mohmood Madani ?

I saw the whole episode yesterday. In the discussion here Colonel Sahab contended that Hazrat Mahmood Madani Sahab (DB) should not have appeared on a programme with film personalities - that has not been the way of our Elders. Nearly everybody else has been disagreeing with him.
Mujhse bekas ki dawlat pe laakhon durood, Mujhse bebas ki quwwat pe laakhon salaam,
Hum ghareebon ke aaqa pe behad durood, Hum faqeeron ki sarwat pe laakhon salaam.

Zakir naik was mostly very quite throughout . Not like him .
The presenter was clearly driving her own set of points through effectively. It wasn't much of a debate .
More of a 'feel good' session for SRK for his strange notions on Islam .
I felt bad for the Muslim girl at the end who did not know how to defend her own views was mostly ganged up on by others.

They didn't let Dr. Naik finish his points - always cutting him off and editing out much of what he did say - he was the best speaker - he tried to put across the correct view on many things but was not allowed to finish. I really respected when he said he could not judge Usama Bin Laden either way because we only have media view on it all and don't know what the real deal with him is. They all tried to silence him but he kept to his guns.
Maulana sahib I think realised early on that this was a losing debate - When the "Muslim actors and film director" are basically saying their Islam is just window-dressing for them and everyone agreeing with them, when Muslims in the audience are very quick tio say that hijab is a choice etc and they would not tell their own friends to wear it, when the Muslims around him are all saying these things are not important and NOT EVEN A RERQUIREMENT in Islam he had his work cut out. This is why he basically stayed out of it and just added a quip here and there. I mean where do you even start to undo all the false and ignorant ideas of the so-called Muslims around him who always start off saying they don't really know that much about Islam but finish off by passing their own ignorant and false verdicts on all rulings of Islam. When the actor next to you says Islam is very important to him and in the same breath says he told his daughter it doesn't matter why not tell your friends you are Christian instead, the respected Maulana must have been crying tears inside - I certainly was.
I was shocked - is this the level of the Muslims in India now? I hope Maulana sahib realised just how much work needs to be done with the youth in particular who are being led by their noses into a secular pick-and-choose Islam and change-it-how-you-like-to-fit-your-desires-Islam
I thought the Hindu Karan Johar was more open and fair-minded about Islam and its principles than some of those Muslims on stage. Every time Zakir Naik or Maulana sahib said anything proper about Islam, Mr Shahrukh Khan's eyes were looking at the ceiling like this is nothing to do with me - I have made my own Islam up.
Precisely these are the type of questions that should have been addressed in this thread. Instead it got stuck on a single point - whether Hazrat Mahmood Madani Sahab (DB) should have been on the show or not. But, to be fair, some relevant points did come out of the thread. The matter of fact is that programme had already taken place and in spite of our reservations about its validity we should have focused upon the lessons learned. That, I think, has not been done thoroughly.

When I reflect upon the discussion now (after 2 years) I do agree that Maulana Mahmood Madani shouldn't have shared the dias with SRK and Soha Khan. Other than that if not for one SF user's prejudiced views regarding Dilip Kumar and SRK, this thread would have gone in a better direction. Allahu Alam.
